Rising senior Jordyn Jenkins solidified herself as a top 50 level player nationally and she held her own against some of the other best players the country has to offer. Many schools worked to position themselves for her talents, but only five remain. I recently caught up with Jordyn, where she laid out her plan for official visits and what stands out about each program that is recruiting her.
Recruitment Update:
Oklahoma:
Oklahoma has been involved in my process from the jump and I have a great relationship with the coaching staff, especially one of the assistant coaches. After my home visit I learned a lot about the history of the team, the head coach and their style of play. What was big for me as well was they only came to Washington to visit me which showed me how important I am to them.
Official Visit: August 30th-September 1st
Washington:
UW has been watching me since the new staff came along and the family feel I get when talking to them and being around them is a reason why they’re in my top 5. They don’t always talk about basketball, they just want what’s best for you. Talking to the staff they always mention how all they want their players to be flexible and comfortable enough to play every position which is a must for my size going to the next level.
Official Visit: September 6th-8th
USC:
USC immediately struck me by the amount of passion and enthusiasm from the coaches. I can sense the drive and dedication they have towards their players when they talk about their style of play and workouts and that’s what I like, how excited they are when talking about their team. The education is also big for my parents and me and USC of course has great education and is also private.
Official Visit: September 20th-22nd
California:
Cal has been recruiting me since my freshman year when they watched me in the state championships. I have great relationships with the coaches even with the coaching change that happened earlier this year. Cal’s education is what really opened my and my parent’s eyes during the home visit. The opportunity with that alone is extremely appealing. From watching them this past year I like how they work with their forwards as well.
Official Visit: September 27th-29th
Duke:
Although Duke University came late in my recruiting process, what really stood out was the type of school it is and how I was approached by the coaching staff. Talking to the coaches they told me how different Duke is from the rest of the schools. It is unique because it isn’t a “university of” nor is it a “state” and it is a private school. The education and career after a duke women’s basketball player also was big when choosing them as a part of my top 5.
Official Visit: October 18-20
Quick Takeaway:
One common theme between many of the schools was their pitch on academics and potential for life after basketball. Jordyn appears to have her sights set on playing at the absolute highest level, while also achieving academically at the highest level as well. A lot of west coast people are pulling for her to play in the Pac-12, but she may ultimately decide to leave home and explore the Atlantic Coast Conference with Duke or Big-12 Conference with Oklahoma. The first signing period will be in November and all of her visits will be completed by late October, so it will be a battle of the visits here for the next couple months!
Prep Girls Hoops will be sure to keep everyone up to date on the process moving forward!
