So far I’ve seen not only some of the players progress but many explode upwards and here’s quick summary of what I’ve seen
Cy’Maya Colquitt2020
Cy’Maya Colquitt-G (North Shore) coming off of a huge summer where she finished strong and continuing where she left off at both the TSU Camp and North Shore Fall League, she understands her role and plays it well. You need a big shot, she delivers and she does things that can change the momentum of a game quickly, like a key block or steal or hitting teammates on the money in traffic but I’ve seen her in several four point opportunities early this season so I can only imagine what’s coming
Geonna Waddell-PG (Lutheran North) faster than a speeding bullet was always good yet over the years she’s continued to add to her game. Her ball control and ability to run a team was one of the main reasons she helped led her HS team to the state finals last season and that explosive first step has always been there. Never one to settle, she’s hitting the outside shot, mid to long and her defense was always one of her big positives as she applies pressure baseline to baseline
Emily Dogbaste-G (The Village) when you read me saying “explodes off the ground” this young lady fits exactly that as she not only creates off of the dribble and sets defenders up but her jumper is effective as she elevates and knocks it down from everywhere. She rebounds on both ends, plays the passing lane and watching her attack the basket and finish acrobatically has been something to see over the years and I’m talking with contact. Her pressure defense continues to impress
2021
Abby LordAbby Lord-F (St Agnes) the progression continues for her as she just totally left me speechless over the summer yet I knew what I was seeing earlier wasn’t a mirage. So many times, you have to realize that to fill a puzzle, several things have to take place that may not necessarily show up in the box score and watching her take offensive fouls over and over for her shorthanded squad as well as dive on the floor for loose balls is a lost art, plus she battles taller players on the boards
Aiken Semones-PG (The Village) shooting the three ball accurately in the 4th grade caught my eye and never left me sight as she can shoot with the best in the area. Range has gotten longer over the years as well as her ability to catch and shoot it which open up many doors. She’s attacking stronger with more regularity and her ball handling and court vision has taken jumps but she “understands the game” and “can run a squad” yet before you know it, she has numbers herself
Amber Williams-G (Cy Springs) over the years, she has become more than just a long ball shooter and this past year I’ve watched her grow, both on and off the court. Yes, she’s still a threat from deep but she understands the importance of mixing it up, taking the midrange or attacking and her powerful frame enables her to take the lick and finish. She also showed the “combo” as she ran the point for her squad at the TSU camp and watching her handle the pressure spoke volumes
2022
Kolby DavisKolby Davis-G- (Kinkaid) progression, progression, progression, every year I’m seeing not only that but the maturity factor and her poise running the one definitely grabbed my attention. She not only get’s it, but wants “it” and she’s showing that over and over and over. She can be over powering with her strong frame, I’m talking both ends of the court and taking defenders off the dribble has been her “go to” mover but that pull-up actually keeps defenders guessing
Kenna Gibson-G (Clear Springs) middle name has got to be ice because she lives for the pressure on the court. She is one of the best long ball shooters in the area, at times it appears as if she’s playing around the world by her self or just picking her spots. A nice step back as well as the crossover gives her options on the offensive end but she can also take defenders off the dribble as well and finish strong. Her ball handling and passing enables her to play combo but she can shoot it
2023
Abbie BoutlierMolly Ly-PG (Cedar Park) the first time I saw her flying down the court had me thinking “highlight waiting to happen” three years ago and as usual, I was on the money, but so is her jumper, short, mid and deep and I mean deep as she can be labeled “zone buster” for her range and accuracy. The thing that always stands out is the fact that she “plays within herself” and don’t get that confused with her “ability to completely go off” at the blink of an eye because I’ve seen her score double digits in 2-3 minutes multiple times
Abbie Boutlier-P (Flower Mound) size, check, frame double check and agility, check, check, triple check so when you’re 6’6, you will grab attention immediately, that’s the nature of the game and watching her jumps each season told me a lot and that was just on the defensive end. Nowhere near the finished product, she showed an array of offensive moves a few weeks ago, so I know she’s working on that “complete game” and I see it coming, on both ends of the court
