This is the last year for the Prairie State Conference. There are some excellent players returning that college coaches should be watching. In this opening article we explore the top shooters. In the game today the ability to knock down the outside shot is critical. The PSC has some teams that favor a zone defense making the outside shoot even more important.
- Anna McKee is a 5’8 2021 guard from Father McGivney. Anna is a very athletic player that can affect the game in many ways. She has deep range on her 3 point shot. Anna is not afraid to shoot when she is open no matter the result of the previous shot. Anna seemed to feel the pressure to score at times last year. If everyone stays healthy this year she will likely have a bit better shot selection and hit a higher percentage from behind the arc.
- Kayla Brantley is a 5’7 2020 guard from Wood River ( EAWR). Kayla is a very good scorer. She is not the fastest player on the floor but always seems to find open spots for her shot. Kayla has some knee problems last year and hopefully stays healthy this year. She has a good shot and a natural ability to score that the Oilers will need.
- Emma Daniel is a 5’7 2021 guard from Metro East Lutheran. Emma has great range and is very versatile. She is able to score at all three levels which makes her hard to stop. Emma is very good off screens and has a good consistent form.
- Kamryn Fandrey is a 5’6 2022 guard from Alton Marquette. Kamryn led the team in made 3 pointers and free throw percentage last year. She was second in the team in scoring. Kamryn will continue to improve as she grows and gets stronger because her form will be more consistent. She is a very hard worker who excels in being a catch and shoot option against the zone.
- LeighAnn Nottke is a 5’5 2020 guard from Wood River (EAWR). LeighAnn is a very smart player that finds open spots. She can hit the 3 off the catch with consistency. LeighAnn is very quick and as a 3 year letterman provides leadership for her team.
- Adrenna Snipes is a 5’7 2022 guard from Alton Marquette. Adrenna is a great ball handler and is very quick. She creates space off the dribble but is best off the catch. Adrenna works very hard on aspects of her game and will no doubt get even better behind the arc. She is good from the mid range and scored over 17 per game as a freshman.
- Mia Fesser is a 5’4 2021 guard from Nokomis. Mia is a good spot up shooter that had a good sophomore season. She will have an even bigger role this year due to graduation.
The team that wins is the team that scores the most points, so shooting is critical. As I mentioned before there are teams in the conference that prefer to play zone so the outside shot becomes very important. In many games a couple of 3 pointers can start a big run the seals a game. Watching this group should be fun as they look to hit the big shots that lead to a conference championship.
