Unfortunately, Launi tore her ACL and Meniscus in June 2018. She was cleared to practice this past January and took that time to slowly get back into the basketball routine with her High School practices, not being able to get much game action her Junior season. Since returning to the court she has made a point to come back stronger than before.
From the PG position, Launi does a great job leading the offense. Her rock-solid ball handling skills in the open court allow her to consistently get into the offense without issue. Defensively, she likes to match up with the opposing PG and make her uncomfortable up and down the floor.
When I asked Launi what she saw as the strengths in her game, she said “I would say my defense, pushing the ball up the floor to my teammates, and shooting the three. In my opinion, my outside shot could become more consistent too.”
A PG who can shoot the three ball consistently is a very tough player to find, but when you come across one, they can be very dangerous to opposing teams. Watching her play, you can tell that she works on that outside shot, and that hard work has been paying off.
When I asked Launi what she is looking to improve on most, she says “I will definitely be working on getting my speed back up. Even after months of training after I got cleared, I’m still a step or two slower than I was before. But the outside shot is something I’m really going to commit to for sure.”
What is going on in recruiting?
“Unfortunately, the injury kind of led to a dry patch for me, but I’m super happy to be back at it. I have, though, received interest and had contact with a handful of schools, including University of St. Thomas, Carroll College, University of Chicago, Illinois College, Benedictine, Knox College, Stephens College, Clarke University.”
