Continue ReadingThe gym was packed last Saturday at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 in Aurora, Illinois. Some of the top talent in the state was in attendance. In this article I will highlight the best shooters I saw that day. These girls all have a special ability to shoot the basketball from anywhere on the court.
- Kate Palmer is a 5″10 2021 guard from Geneva.Kate is coming off a good Sophomore campaign where she garnered attention for her jump shot. She displayed great form and the ability to score in multiple ways. Kate is deadly off the catch and shoot. If she has her feet set the ball is going in most of the time. She showed a nice runner to compliment her outside shot.
- Kammie Ludwig is a 5’10 2022 wing from Geneseo. Kammie had a great second half in the game I watched. She was on fire from behind the arc and had a nice runner in the lane. Kammie has good balance and form to her shot and is patient by waiting for the right shots. She has two D1 offers so far and I am sure that list will grow quickly this year.
- Eden Frick is a 5’10 2021 guard from Glenbrook South. Eden has an effortless shooting stroke. She does a great job using her lower body to provide the strength for her shot. Because of that her motion with her arms is smooth and simple. She made two 3-pointers and a nice mid range jumper in the game I saw.
- Elizabeth ( Lizzie) Baldridge is 5’8 2023 guard from York. Lizzie showed consistent from to her shot. She hit two 3-point shots and a nice mid range shot off the catch when I was watching. She is still developing her strength so it is not normal to see such great form and range at the this stage. Lizzie is one to watch as she keeps developing.
- Kelby Bannerman is a 6’1 2021 forward from Hampshire. Kelby is an excellent scorer at all levels. She can hurt you in the post, but she impressed me most with her face up game. In the game I saw she had the game on ice for her team by the end of the first half. Kelby hit three shots from behind the 3-point line in addition to scoring inside. She is getting looks from D1 schools as a face up power forward and she fits the profile of that role perfectly.
- Emma Raupp is a 5’7 2021 guard from Schaumburg. Emma is a player that is capable of playing the point guard or off guard spot with her athletic ability and ball handling. In either spot she is a plus shooter that is very consistent. Her release and form looks almost the same on each attempt. She showed her range by hitting two 3-point shots and also made a nice mid range coming off a screen.
- Ellie Wisner is a 5’10 2021 guard from Nequa Valley.Ellie is coming off a successful summer with the Illinois Rockets AAU team. She is another tall guard with a very smooth shot. Ellie uses her legs well to get her strength and range to her shot. Ellie is very balanced all the way to her follow through. She made two shots from behind the 3-point line when she got an open look.
- Laila Barakat is a 5’6 2022 guard from Stagg. Laila hit a nice step back 3-point shot when I was watching. She did a very good job of getting her legs under her to get her balance and strength to hit the shot. Laila hit two other deep shots while I was watching. Working on her shooting from long range was a focus in the off season for Laila. In a previous article on PGH Illinois she mentioned specifically the step back shot to Jacob Wohlwend as a point of emphasis for her. The results are in, the work is paying off.
