At 5’6, Frenchers is a strong guard who can get to the rim, play a finesse game and is quick and shifty off the dribble. She looks to help her team in whatever is needed to win and takes pride in not being one dimensional.
In her first season of varsity basketball, Frenchers averaged 14 points, six assists and six steals per game. She set the single game record for assists at her school twice, with 13 the first time and 15 steals the second time and finished with a school record 65 steals.
“We definitely didn’t end with as good of a record as I was hoping but that’s what this next season is all about,” Frenchers said. “(We have) a new coach, new energy and a new team. It’s going to be interesting.”
Frenchers spent the offseason running with NLE and says the experience helped her develop into an even better all-around player.
“We played in some big tournaments this year against some great teams because we got bumped up into some platinum games,” she said. “We didn’t win all of them but they were great competition and let us know what we need to work on and it also showed who’s really going to play at the top level in college.
“Those high level games really helped me prepare for this upcoming season because now that I’m pretty well known in my league, they’re going to be guarding me a lot harder and all I played against this summer was tough defenders so I feel like I’ll be ready.”
Frenchers says she has worked on her mid-range jumper, adding what has become a lost art to her game.
“Nowadays you either finish at the rim, or you live and die by the 3,” she said. “If I can do all three of those shots, then my team will be unstoppable. This summer also was big for me because I started talking to a lot more schools this summer than last summer and it’s just making the whole college dream even more surreal. But i really do have the best summer team out right now and there’s no other team I’d rather battle with then my girls on NLE.”
Frenchers says the biggest influence on her basketball career to date has been Jason Otter.
“He for sure helps me play better on the physical side of it, but really it’s the mental aspect of the game that he really stressed with me and it’s made all the difference in the world,” Frenchers said. “Because im smaller than your average D1 prospect, I have to play smarter than everyone else. That also includes how to be the best teammate and leader for my team.
“Coach Jason always told me to think at the end of practice, ‘Did I make someone better today?’”
A fan of basketball at all levels, Frenchers says she likes watching the other games at the tournaments she attends during the summer.
“It’s fun to see people my age play and sometimes I’ll pick up some new moves I might’ve never seen before or just saw them do a move that I forgot about,” she said. “Also, it’s just cool to think that some of the girls I watch I could end up playing against later in college and it’s cool to see all the talent that is all around the US.”
Frenchers currently holds offers from Pittsburg State and University of Texas Rio Grand Valley, and has drawn interest from UMKC, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas at Arlington, Missouri State, Providence, Wichita State, Florida International, Iowa and Bradley.
