They ended the season with a loss in the Regional to Breese Mater Dei. The Lady Cougars return everyone except Allyson Fehrmann and have high expectations.
Coach Rueter will rely on a strong group of juniors to lead the team. Those players are:
- Chloe Book is a 5’8 2021 guard. Chloe will take over the role as the primary ball handler this year. She began this role over the summer and has been working to improve her ball handling and court vision. Chloe is an outstanding defender that can guard 1-4 when needed. She is very athletic and has the mentality to want that challenge. Chloe had a good summer playing with the SI Hawks program. By stepping out of her comfort zone she challenged herself to learn and get better. Chloe can score the ball too. She can get in the lane and finish. Chloe has a nice outside shot and should be monitored by small colleges.
- Miah Weems is a 5’8 2021 guard. Miah is a very good shooter that brings scorers mentality to the game. If she misses a shot she will not shy away from taking the next open shot. Miah is not afraid to keep shooting. Miah also knows the feeling of getting hot. She loves the feeling that every shot is going in the basket. She enjoys when her coach calls a play for her and the feeling that she knows she will make the shot. Miah takes pride in her court vision and her ability to make a pass. Miah can detect what is going to happen and make the pass to the player that is open. To maximize her potential Miah knows she has to get stronger and quicker. Miah wants to improve her defense and ball handling. Miah loves the game of basketball and works at it constantly. She should be monitored by small college coaches over her last two years.
- Cassidy Kretschmer is a 5’10 2021 forward. Cassidy is a very strong and effective player in the post. On the defensive end she is another very versatile player. Cassidy is capable of guarding a small quick player but excels at battling bigger players in the paint. Cassidy is very vocal and animated on the court. Coaches really value players that talk on the court and Cassidy is that player. Cassidy works hard at improving her individual skills by working with trainers. She is working on her basketball skill and also her physical skills. She will need to continue to improve her perimeter game to maximize her college potential. Cassidy is an excellent student who should be monitored by small colleges.
Coach Rueter will also rely on 2021 forward Ellie Jansen. She is 5’9 and might be the best rebounder on the team. She is comfortable doing the dirty work needed to excel in that role. Ellie does a great job of anticipating where the ball is going on a missed shot. Sophie Thomas is a 5’10 2022 forward and Haley Ottenschnieder is a 5’6 2023 guard that could add some punch to an already potent lineup.
The Lady Cougars will continue to play a tough out of conference schedule. These types of games help prepare the team for tough tournament games. The team is certainly looking to win a regional title this year. It will be fun to watch to see how far they can go.
