- Amiah Hargrove is a 6’2 2024 wing from Christopher. Amiah is special and has the potential to be a high major player. As an 8th grader she is able to handle the ball and move well enough to play the wing. She uses her height and athletic ability to hit pull up jumpers over the top of smaller defenders. Amiah has a smooth stroke to her shot and is strong enough to absorb contact. Amiah has attended national camps and is already garnering attention from D1 programs. Coming from a lineage of top level athletes ( her father is former NFL player Anthony Hargrove), she will be exposed to the mental side of what it takes to play at the highest levels. Amiah could challenge state scoring records and really make a name for herself over the next 5 years.
- Kenzie Rushing is a 5’9 2021 wing from Pinckneyville. Kenzie is an excellent scorer that can hurt you at all 3 levels. She is coming off a knee injury that occurred last season. She should be cleared and ready to go before practice begins. Kenzie did not play live while I was watching but looked good in the drills. She has a strong projectable frame and can shoot it. Kenzie was averaging 17 points per game prior to her injury as a sophomore. If she comes back healthy Kenzie should certainly be a player for college coaches to watch.
- Madisyn Blankenship is a 5’7 2020 guard from Herrin. Madisyn is a very good spot up shooter with range. She plays hard and is a good defender. Madisyn has the ability to get into the lane with her quickness.Madisyn handles the ball well and gets out and runs the floor hard on the break.
- Meghyn Blankenship is a 5’6 2022 guard from Herrin. Meghyn is nice compliment to her sister and plays very similar. She can shoot the ball well out to the 3 point line in a catch and shoot situation. She is a good defender and can use her long wiry frame to contest passes and shots.
- Layla Wade is a 5’8 2021 post player from Herrin. Layla does an excellent job of using her strength to get post position. She has a strong lower half that allows her to seal and hold off a defender. Layla has quick feet that allow her to move and turn to adjust to a defenders movements. She will need to continue improving her ability to finish against taller players if she wants to maximize her scoring. Layla is working hard to improve her mid range game to create more scoring options. She is a hard worker that just stays after it no matter what happens.
I enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the training session done by Coach Barrington and his staff. They did an excellent job with the girls. I knew from the first minute in the gym that Amiah Hargrove was something special. Hopefully all of the girls have a great season, I can’t wait to keep track of what they do.
