These are not projections of any kind. I am simply pointing out the WNBA players that these individuals remind me of. I am aware that no comparison is perfect. However, it’s a common exercise in the world of sports, and serves as a good introduction to some of the more underrated prospects in the state of Texas.
Gabby Robinson – 2020 5’3 PG (Cy Fair Elite 16U) Naaman Forest HS
WNBA Comp – Jewell Loyd
Loyd is one of the most dynamic guards in the WNBA. Her speed, court vision, and killer instinct make her incredibly dangerous in the open court. Her speed with the ball is one of the main reasons I’ve chosen Loyd as Gabby Robinson’s comp.
Gabby Robinson is a speedy ball handler who is explosive with the rock in her hands. She can blow by just about anyone and get to the cup for an easy two. Like Loyd, Robinson is at her best when she’s playing downhill, but she is also capable of making an open three. Additionally, both players are great passers, but this is an often overlooked part of Loyd’s game since she shares a backcourt with one of the greatest playmakers in the history of women’s basketball.
Caroline Morgan – 2021 5’5 Guard (GTE) Celina HS
WNBA Comp – Sue Bird
Sue Bird is a legend and a generational player. She has been lighting it up in the WNBA ever since she was selected first overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2002 draft. Her unselfish style of play is very similar to Caroline Morgan. Like Bird, Morgan is a generous passer who enjoys getting her teammates involved on the offensive end.
Both players are among the best scoring options for their respective teams, but they never dominate the ball. Their high basketball IQs are on display every time they step on the court. Morgan is also a knockdown three-point shooter who can hit from the catch or off the dribble. This is very reminiscent of Bird, who has been one of the most consistent shooters from behind the arc in the WNBA for well over a decade.
Sibelle Zambie – 2023 SG (Cy Fair Elite) Plano West
WNBA Comp – Allie Quigley
Allie Quigley is a certified sniper from behind the three-point line. She won back-to-back WNBA three-point contests in 2017 and 2018. Quigley is one of the greatest shooters in WNBA history. That’s why I’ve selected her as the comp for Sivelle Zambie, who was the best shooter I saw this summer.
Zambie is an elite three-point shooter. She has a quick release and an overall beautiful jump shot. Like Quigley, Zambie is extremely effective in catch and shoot scenarios. She moves well without the ball and is always hunting her shot. Additionally, Zambie is a deceptively good finisher inside, which is another characteristic she shares with Quigley.
