The 2019 Fall Hooparama, hosted by the Bullitt East Lady Chargers, takes place this Saturday, November 23, and it is loaded with some of the best teams in the state. This will be the first chance to see this year’s versions of some of the top teams and players in the state during a day chock full of basketball action!
Kendall Wingler, Meade County- An incredible scorer, Wingler averaged an incredible 26 points per game last year, shooting well despite facing overwhelming pressure from opposing defenses. This season is a chance not only for Meade County to try to capitalize on Wingler’s senior season but for Wingler to showcase her playmaking skills and help lift the rest of the Green Waves up to her level.
Mya Meredith, Scott- An incredibly talented all-around player, Meredith comes into this season as not just one of the top juniors, but one of the top players in the state period. Having already put up incredible numbers across the board with 24.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per game last season, this will be the first chance to see if Meredith has taken yet another step forward. If she can showcase improved skills as a playmaker while improving what are already huge strengths in other areas, this Saturday could mark the beginning of a truly special season for Meredith.
Lexi Taylor, Bullitt East- The hosting lady chargers will take on the defending state champion Ryle Raiders. While there are plenty of players to watch for Ryle, they are a proven team with proven players who should impress. This will be much more of a test for Bullitt East and their top player Lexi Taylor. The standout wing had a great year averaging 17.2 points per game last season with a strong game both inside and out. If she can show out against Ryle and Miss Basketball favorite Maddie Scherr, then it could spell even bigger things for her this coming season.
Hannah McKay, Owensboro Catholic- There are plenty of players to watch in this titanic struggle as the Aces of Owensboro Catholic take on the DuPont Manual Crimsons in what may be the game of the day Saturday. McKay will attempt to stand out in a crowded field and show why she is already a division one commit. The senior forward will have a battle on her hands as she fights for both points and rebounds on the inside.
Erin Toller, Sacred Heart- This an especially big showcase for Toller as she missed the last two seasons with knee injuries, including a torn ACL last year. One of the most talented players in the state, Toller is still committed to Kentucky despite her injury problems. Saturday is Toller’s first chance this season to show that she has successfully rebounded from these knee issues and cement her place as one of the top players in the state.
Taziah Jenks, Mercy- The night-cap on the day’s action will feature one of the top contenders for Miss Basketball. Jenks is second on our senior player rankings with good reason. The forward is a tremendous two-way player with the mix of athleticism and skills one would expect from one of the top players in the state. She leads a loaded Mercy team that will look to make some noise this season starting this weekend.
