Sara Serbantez was one of the many players that attended the event and showed off her skills. She’s a 5’10” shooting guard/wing in the class of 2020. Serbantez attends Flat Rock High School. We caught up with her and talked about her experience at the Under The Radar Showcase.
Question:
What is the biggest strength in your game?
Sara Serbantez:
I think that the biggest strength in my game is getting to the rim. My coach has given me the nickname “The Slasher”. This is a big strength in my game because it also gets me on the foul line frequently. I think that this is my biggest strength because I work on it a lot; I am always in the gym working on new moves. I am not afraid to put in work.
Question:
What was it that made you choose to attend Under The Radar?
Sara Serbantez:
I chose to attend the Under The Radar Showcase mainly because I knew that it would be a good opportunity to do some skill work in front of college coaches. Also, my travel coach, Richard Sherwood, had a hand in making it happen. He really pushed the girls in his organizations to be a part of it.
Question:
What was the best aspect of Under The Radar?
Sara Serbantez:
For me, the best aspect of Under The Radar was definitely the competitiveness. It was high energy the entire time and I really enjoyed that.
Question:
What was your favorite part of the event?
Sara Serbantez:
My favorite part of the event was a drill called, “Defensive Transition Drill”. I liked this drill because it forced everyone to be loud and was a very high-energy drill.
Question:
In what areas do you feel like you improved?
Sara Serbantez:
I feel like I improved on my ability to pick up new drills quickly. All of us players were expected to execute the drills correctly after one demonstration. It was a necessary skill that I had to get good at quickly.
Question:
Was there a coach there that you really enjoyed working with?
Sara Serbantez:
I really enjoyed working with Coach Jones. He stayed with my age group the entire time. He made sure that we were putting in 110% effort because he wanted us to look our best in front of the college coaches that were there to see us play.
Question:
Who was the toughest player that you matched up with at Under The Radar?
Sara Serbantez:
I have to say that the toughest player I matched up against was Hadley Gratz. She is a really smart player that I look forward to playing during the high school season.
