It was filled with some great games and outstanding performances from the usual stars and also had some big games from sleepers. Mercy Academy ended up defeating Notre Dame Monday night in the finals 67-56.
Louisville Area Standouts:
Ta’Ziah Jenks and Hope Sivori (Mercy)
Jenks averaged 22.3 points and 10.5 rebounds in their 4-0 run through the tournament. Her defense on top of the press is really what got Mercy going. She would get steals or deflections that would then lead to easy baskets. Jenks’ teammate, Sivori, seemed to hit the big shots when her team needed it. She ended up averaging 25.5 points including connecting on 16 3-pointers. Sivori was definitely shooting well from beyond the arc and also from the free throw line, going 14-15 in their second game versus Franklin County. In the championship game, Jenks had 28 points and Sivori had 27 points despite only having 8 points in the first half.
Peyton Cronen (Assumption)
The 5’7″ senior guard had a breakout game in their first game of the tournament. Despite losing a close low scoring game, Cronen scored 22 points and added 8 rebounds. She hit 6 3-pointers in 12 attempts.
Marissa Gasaway (Eastern)
Eastern only won 1 game in the tournament, but Marissa was a double double machine in all 4 games. Gasaway averaged 15.8 points and 16.5 rebounds.
Tierra East and Dynastee White (Butler)
The pair of Juniors, Tierra East and Dynastee White, each scored 16 points in a win over Marion County. White added 8 rebounds and East pulled down 7. Butler went 3-1 over the weekend, but lost their opening round game to Bowling Green by 3 points.
Other Standouts:
Hannah McKay (Owensboro Catholic)
McKay a 6’0″ Senior forward had a great weekend, especially in the opening night matchup against Fern Creek. She scored 26 points, shooting 12 of 15 from the field and 8 rebounds. McKay averaged 17.8 points and 8.5 rebounds for the weekend.
Amelia Hodges (Bethlehem)
The 5’8″ Junior guard also had a big first game as well as a great weekend. Hodges had 26 points in the opening round win against Eastern. She connected on 4 3-pointers and contributed 6 rebounds.
Macey Feldman, Lacey Bradshaw, Jill MacKnight (Notre Dame)
Feldman, Bradshaw, and MacKnight, all Sophomores, came up big all weekend to get Notre Dame to the championship game, but it was opening night where they shined. Bradshaw led the team with 18 points followed by Feldman with 15 points. It was MacKnight that won the game hitting a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left in the game to give the Pandas a 43-41 win over DuPont Manual. MacKnight also led the team in scoring the next night with 15 points.
