As the afternoon started to come to a close, the competition in the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs Classic picked up as expected. Featuring match ups with Broward County teams facing Dade County teams, like St Thomas versus Mater Lakes and also Nova versus Miami Christian. All the teams played hard and we were in for a treat of good quality basketball. We also were able to see the home team, Cardinal Gibbons as they faced Cypress Bay and one of the top players in the 2020 class. Check out the players that performed well:

<span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Emily Jimenez - Guard Junior </strong></span>
Was impressed of the sacrifice that she made for her team on the defensive end. Coach went to a box and one on the other teams best player and she stepped up to that challenge. She made the player work for every shot that she was able to get. Even with exerting all of her energy to defend the other teams best player the entire game, she still ran the floor on offense and was able to be one of the key players for her team.
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000">Mariah McKenzie - Guard Freshman</span></strong>
This kid's body passes the eye test right now at her young age. She's athletic, strong and a physical player. Played with absolutely no fear. She was a rebounding machine, which to me shows her effort and determination to get the job done. She created opportunities on both sides of the ball for her team. The potential that she has is off the charts.
<span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Ashley Battle - Guard Freshman</strong></span>
Battle is small, but fast. Her speed on the court is truly something to see. The young point guard has a nice handle of the ball and of her team. She's very vocal and understands the game. She makes sure that her teammates are in the right places and I saw her be the floor general for her squad. Very impressed with what she can do with her size at 4'11.
<span style="font-size: 18pt"><strong>Cypress Bay</strong></span>
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000"><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/sophia-jones/">Sophia Jones</a> - Guard Senior (Signed to San Jose State University)</span></strong>
One of the better players in Broward County had to do it all for her team. Each point she scored was not easy as she faced a box and one the entire game. Kept her composure and still lead her team as best she could. Showed her ability to knock down shots even while she was tired and facing two defenders at one time. She also displayed nice ball handling skills as she didn't have many turnovers in the game. From what I see she will be facing defenses like this the entire season.
<span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Aicha Keita - Forward Freshman</strong></span>
Keita has a lot of upside. She's long, athletic, slender and can run the floor. She stands at 6'0 tall and is already causing opponents to change their shot when she's inside of the paint. She was a key contributor for her team throughout the game, whether she was rebounding or defending she got the job done.
<strong><span style="font-size: 18pt">Mater Lakes Academy </span></strong>
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000">Brianna Alexander - Guard Senior </span></strong>
The lefty showed how well she can stroke the ball from three and mid range. I saw her make some great decisions with the basketball, get her teammates involved and was very vocal on the court on the defensive end. Her leadership will definitely help her team down the road as the time gets closer to district play.
<span style="font-size: 18pt"><strong>St Thomas Aquinas</strong></span>
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000">Jada Green - Forward Sophomore</span></strong>
Watching her this past weekend has shown me that she has grown in the past few weeks from the last time I saw her play. She's consistently knocking down the free throw jump shot, she's agile and can move for her size of about 5'11. She was very aggressive rebounding the basketball. Displayed some great finishing moves at the basket. I can see her easily averaging a double-double throughout this season.
<span style="font-size: 12pt;color: #ff0000"><strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/karina-gordon/">Karina Gordon</a> - Guard Freshman</strong></span>
She came out this weekend on fire. She went 2/2 from the three point line to open the game up. Gordon is able to get to the basket, kick it out to open teammates and just make the right basketball play. Transferring from Miami Country Day, I'm very impressed with how shes fitting in with a new system, coaches and teammates. She's truly excelling and thriving with how she's playing. Excited about her growth and continued development.
