One of the great aspects of that is seeing teams and players go head to head in matchups that we wouldn’t otherwise see. That being said, let’s take a look at some 1-on-1 matchups between seniors in Michigan high school basketball that I’d like to see in 2020.
Kadyn Blanchard vs. Sanaya Gregory
Kadyn Blanchard (2020, G, Freeland)
Sanaya Gregory (2020, PG, East Lansing)
Blanchard and Gregory are 2 of the top perimeter defenders in the state. They are lockdown defenders that consistently match up with top scoring threats. It’d be fun to see them lock each other up.
Morgan Thompson vs. Amaka Unobagha
Morgan Thompson (2020, C, Northville)
Amaka Unobagha (2020, C, Saginaw Arts & Sciences)
Thompson and Unobagha are 2 of the premier centers in Michigan. Thompson can score with her back to the basket while Unobagha is a rim protector with length. Who would come out on top?
DeShonna Day vs. Sarah Miller
DeShonna Day (2020, SG, Muskegon)
Sarah Miller (2020, SG, Three Rivers)
These players are both prime time scorers. The match up between Day and Miller would have offensive highlights galore. We’d see it all, from sharpshooting to athletic finishes at the rim.
Lauren Ross vs. Dani Salenbien
Lauren Ross (2020, PG, Muskegon Reeths-Puffer
Dani Salenbien (2020, PG, Adrian Lenawee Christian)
Ross and Salenbien are both outstanding point guards in the senior class. Salenbien is an old school floor general while Ross can score and create.
Siena Smith vs. Alize Tripp
Siena Smith (2020, G, Ann Arbor Huron)
Alize Tripp (2020, SG, Michigan Center)
Smith is a rising star that can play with flare, while Tripp boasts a well rounded game built around doing all the little things. This would be a fun battle to see.
