Earlier today I looked at some 1-on-1 matchups between seniors that I’d like to see in the new year. Now we’ll look at some matchups between juniors that I’d like to see in 2020.
Kailee Davis vs. Damiya Hagemann
Kailee Davis (2021, PG, Detroit Renaissance)
Damiya Hagemann (2021, PG, Detroit Edison)
These are 2 elite point guards in Michigan, regardless of class. They can both attack and breakdown the defense. Davis is quick and explosive while Hagemann is smooth and flashy.
Ally VanTimmeren vs. AJ Ediger
Ally VanTimmeren (2021, PF, Jenison)
AJ Ediger (2021, PF, Hamilton)
This would be an epic matchup between 2 elite forwards. Both VanTimmeren and Ediger can dominate the glass and control the paint. There would be no second chance buckets in if these 2 squared off.
Ella Stemmer vs. Keliese Christopher
Ella Stemmer (2021, Wing, Saline)
Keliese Christopher (2021, SF, East Kentwood)
This would be a primetime matchup between athletic wings both ranked in the top 15-20. Stemmer is steady as can be and is a 3 level scorer. Christopher has size and ball skills that make her a tough cover.
Nika Dorsey vs. Carly McCrum
Nika Dorsey (2021, SF, Detroit Renaissance)
Carly McCrum (2021, SF, Bay City John Glenn)
Dorsey is off to a solid start this season. She’s attacking off the wing and finishing at a high percentage. McCrum is a very talented small forward with nice range on her jumper.
Morasha Wiggins vs. Breanne Salenbien
Morasha Wiggins (2021, Wing, Kalamazoo Central)
Breanne Salenbien (2021, SF, Adrian Lenawee Christian)
This would have the makings of an instant classic. Salenbien and Wiggins are both big time Division 1 prospects. Salenbien is a constant threat to score while Wiggins is a stout physical defender.
