I’ve had the luxury of seeing a ton of dynamic playmakers this season with a knack for getting their teammates involved on the offensive end, and I wanted to shed some light on these unsung heroes.
With that in mind, here are five of the best passers I’ve seen thus far:
Nevaeh Tot – 2020 5’6 Point Guard (DFW Elite EYBL) John Paul II HS – I was floored by the Oklahoma commit a few weeks back when I got to see her in action for the first time. She is an extremely capable scorer from all three levels, and she uses that to her advantage as a passer. Tot is so good at getting defenses to collapse on her and subsequently finding the player that has been left open. The ball never sticks to her. She is a master manipulator when she is running the show on offense.
Madison Cleary – 2020 5’10 Shooting Guard (Cy Fair Elite 17U Platinum) Prosper HS – Cleary is an outstanding three-point shooter, but every time I watch her play, I am always most impressed with her ability as a passer. She can make every pass in the book and loves getting her teammates good looks from behind the arc. The North Texas commit is such a natural facilitator who thrives as the ball handler in pick and roll/pop scenarios. She makes some really difficult passes look easy, which is always the sign of a great prospect.
Tymberlin Criswell – 2021 5’8 Point Guard (Houston UTD) The Village HS – The junior point guard is surrounded by scorers, making her the perfect lead guard for her team. Her court vision and high basketball IQ are evident whenever she steps on the floor. She makes full court passes with ease. Criswell has tremendous speed with the ball, but never looks out of control. Whether it’s getting the ball into the post or out to a shooter on the perimeter, she gets it done at a high level.
Zayla Tinner – 2020 5’11 Forward/Guard (Drive Nation EYBL) Amarillo HS – Tinner can play any position one through four. That makes her passing ability even more impactful. She is a versatile distributor whose size and strength allows her to see over the defense and fling the rock anywhere she wants. I loved seeing her deliver cross-court passes with pinpoint accuracy in the championship game of the Dallas Mavericks Fall Classic a few months back. She is a special talent.
Kamen Wong – 2022 5’3 Combo Guard (Lady Dragonfly) Frisco Liberty HS – Wong is an incredibly talented facilitator as a sophomore. She is a generous passer, always looking to move the ball and knows when to make the extra pass. She can drain the three ball which forces opposing defenders to respect her shot. That allows her the necessary space to find cutting teammates. The 2022 prospect has a great feel for the game and is only going to get better with time as her skills continue to develop.
