Prep Hoops Girls takes a look at the #11 ranked player for the class of 2021, Tylieea Wallace. A 6’0 junior post player for Schlagle HIgh School and KC Dream Basketball Club.
In a time where the game is dominated by speedy ball handlers, long-range shooters and lengthy wings we lose the value of a true post. A big that imposes their will by using size and strength consistently. Tylieea Wallace is just that. To become this type of player it definitely takes time, commitment and a love for the game. I asked Tylieea, when she fell in love with basketball and if she has had any adversity she’s had to overcome in her journey.
“I fell in love with basketball 6th grade and played both basketball and softball growing up so I had to make a decision to really out my time into one other the other. I started playing softball when I was in 2nd grade and I stopped playing the summer of the 9th grade year, that’s when my AAU teams traveling really started to pick up and going back and forth to both practices and workouts with both teams took a toll on me and got pretty expensive. So that made me choose one and basketball was it.”
Tylieea comes from a big family full of sisters and brothers who all have participated in sports at some point in their lives. Coming from a sports family does make it easier to have an interest but keeping that interest and motivation is a different story.
“My parents really have been my biggest influence because they motivate me and keep me going everyday.”
Tylieea continues to grow and develop her game, even though some would consider her to be one of the most skilled post in the Kansas City area, she continues to spend hours with her skill development coach perfecting different moves and trying to expand her game. Wallace, has great footwork and her ability to use both hands equally is a rarity amongst kids in this day and age. We all have players we look up to and try and patent our game from so we asked her who were some of her favorite players so watches and learns from.
“My favorite WNBA team is the Las Vegas Aces because they have really good action when when Aja Wilson and Liz Cambage are in together. They are two of my favorite players.”
The junior post player, being an upperclassman now is relied on to be a leader on the court to younger girls. This role is not only vocal but leading by example so we were interested in hearing some of her individual and team goals.
“My goal for the team is season is to pick up where we left off last year and bring one back to the city. My individual goals would be to stay confident and keep being a team player. I think I can do a better job of is being more consistent. I have been working on that and it’s coming along but as long as I stay confident and trust my game everything will fall into place.”
The uncommitted junior has interest a lot of D1 and D2 schools. Tylieea and the Lady Stallions are currently 5-1 and 1-0 in conference. They travel to Olathe Northwest this Friday January 24th, 2020 for a non-conference game against the Lady Ravens.
