KC Jamfest: Best In Transition

The KC Jamfest kicked off in Kansas City, KS, this weekend with a unique blend of players who handled themselves pretty well in a fast-paced environment in which most teams were looking to get out and run-n-gun for the most part. Teams seemed to be looking to take advantage of the 1-court setting, where everyone knew where to go and did not have to worry about multiple games on different courts that would extend their foot travel time. With this being the case, this tournament had more concentrated eyes focused on each game, from the refs all the way to us Scouts and Cameramen. With strong conviction, I witnessed 10 girls who really showcased their individual skill sets in transition and on the break in a major way. Here are the top 10 in this phase of the game:        Strong finisher around the basket and plays aggressively as she runs the floor. She seeks out contact and also gives contact. Madelyn doesn't mind if the game is too physical; there will be no complaints from her, she'll just continue to get buckets and continue to get to the FT line. She's a combo wing that plays bigger than her size once she enters the paint and has been leading P4H Academy in scoring so far at the KC Jamfest.     Plays with a smooth flow in transition and has much poise overall. She is one of the leading scorers for P4H Academy, and none of her shots ever seem rushed. She always seems to have great shot selection overall and knows her target areas on the court.     a strong ball-hawk on defense, especially in transition. She has an even better-than-expected ball-handling ability on the break and in quick-decision situations.     A combo guard who always finds her way into the paint for high percentage looks and can play pretty tenacious on-ball defense as well at times. She was a consistent double-figure scorer at KC Jamfest this weekend.     Probably has the best transition footwork that I've seen at KC Jamfest. Most of it was very subtle and not always an abundance of opportunities for her, but the skill is clearly there as she made same-direction hesi moves look easy with most of the work done at her feet and not above the waist, which is very hard to do unless you've got it like that.     Best end-to-end runner at KC Jamfest. She sets a blistering pace for her opponents as she is always running the floor on offense and consistently finds herself with easy opportunities at the rim. Leading scorer for Minnesota Freeze against High Impact in a tightly contested victory over a team they struggled with in the past. Her size, speed, and activity, combined with her scoring prowess, is gonna be a problem for anyone at any size who tries to guard her.     Very reliable in times you need a bucket. Can grab a big rebound, lead a break, and finish a break. Consistent leading scorer for High Impact, and Consistent leading shot blocker and rebounder for High Impact as well.     Showed growth and potential at the point forward position as she shook off early shooting struggles in game 1 and focused more on her mid-range to gain rhythm, as she was much more successful at that during game 2. But her passing was the most surprising. In Transition, she made good decisions and saw the floor well, even tried to force an almost full-court transition pass that actually just needed a little more arm strength to get there in time, as she started to make plays for her team and spark a huge run for High Impact that led to a comfortable victory in game 2.     5'9 guard who led a comeback against Play4Him at KC Jamfest in the second half with her transition buckets and overall pace-setting that had her opponents reeling the remainder of the game. She plays mostly off her athletics right now, as she continues to play way up in competition and still has a speed and strength advantage against most guards who try to cover her.     Solid Fundamental Defender. Has a good defensive stance overall and always keeps her eyes on her assignment and the ball. Does a good job of limiting her opponent's space in 1v1 to eliminate any dribbling in front of her. In transition, she has strong hands and is a constant threat of a turnover if the ball is near her on defense.
