The Chiefs were forced to chip away at a double digit deficit late in the game. Mahomes then took over and led his team to a 21-0 4th quarter and a 31-20 Super Bowl LIV victory.
Mahomes never say die approach to the game was impressive to say the least. He believed in himself and his teammates, and the world knew, he could lead them back.
There is a lot of basketball talent in Michigan. The question is: Who can pull a Mahomes? What basketball player has the skill and fortitude to do what Mahomes did last night? Well, here’s some likely candidates.
Carlee Crabtree Carlee Crabtree 5'11" | SF Coldwater | 2020 State MI (2020, SF, Coldwater)
We’ve all seen her take charge at Coldwater. She can explode off the wing and carry her team offensively.
Gabrielle Elliott Gabrielle Elliott 5'11" | SF Detroit Edison | 2020 State MI (2020, SF, Detroit Edison)
Why? Because she’s Gabby Elliott, that’s why. She’s one of the most skilled wings in the country and has ability to take over a game at any time.
Kenzie Lewis (2020, PG, Williamston)
Just like Mahomes, Lewis is a leader through and through. Lewis is an emotional spark plug that can keep her team on an even keel.
Cheyenne McEvans Cheyenne McEvans 5'10" | CG Southfield A&T | 2020 State MI (2020, CG, Southfield A&T)
McEvans finds any way she can to affect the outcome of a game. Whether it’s a bucket, a pass, or a big rebound, she’s going to help her team win.
Kailee Davis Kailee Davis 5'4" | PG Detroit Renaissance | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Detroit Renaissance)
The Chiefs are obviously an incredibly talented football team, but Mahomes is the head of the snake. This accurately describes Davis as well. She meshes all the Renaissance talent together and helps them move as one.
Bree Salenbien Bree Salenbien 6'2" | SF Lenawee Chrisrian | 2021 State #47 Nation MI (2021, SF, Adrian Lenawee Christian)
This choice was easy. Why? Because she’s carried her teams to so many big wins on big stages already. Salenbien can be counted on when the bright lights are on.
Ellie Sieler Ellie Sieler 5'7" | PG Monroe | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Monroe)
If Sieler finds her groove, watch out. She has the ability to put her team on her back. She can score and dish, putting her teammates in high percentage positions.
