<span style="font-weight: 400;">Class 2A: Day 1 Stock Risers</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">
</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several standouts in Manhattan.</span></i>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">The opening round — and only round — of the Kansas 2A state championships opened on Wednesday with quarterfinal play at Kansas State University in Manhattan.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Spearville defeated St. Mary’s Colgan (55-41); </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Trego got past Bennington (45-31); Garden Plain defeated Sterling (54-48); and Valley Heights defeated Wabaunsee (51-45).</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">On Thursday, KSHSAA announced the remaining state tournament games would not be played. Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several players who raised their profile at the event. </span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="123508" first="Alissa" last="Heskamp"], 5’5, G, 2020, Spearville</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">An all-state performer in 2019, Heskamp is a senior guard for Spearville who is a reliable scorer and aggressive defender on the perimeter. The second leading scorer for Spearville who created good opportunities and helped her teammates keep the momentum down the stretch. She ended the game with 13 points.</span>
<b>Kyla Kind, 5’6, G/F, 2021, Bennington</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">A standout junior player for Bennington who can make plays and run the floor. She is good at finishing spacing, can score from inside and also looks to connect from 3-point range. Kind finished the game with 12 points against Trego and was the top 3-point shooter in the competition. She shot 3-4 from deep and continued to show leadership and accuracy under pressure. </span>
<b>Grace Pfannenstiel, 5’7, G, 2020, Trego</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">An intelligent guard who can create some and also play off the ball and score. Pfannenstiel is a seasoned player and had a terrific performance against Bennington, going for 11 points during the matchup. She is quick and picks good moments to score. </span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="123552" first="Alli" last="Puetz"], 5’7, G/F, 2021, Garden Plain</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">A nice leader who is confident with the ball and is always ready to make a play. She’s always ready to make a play on offense and looked to score despite not finding her rhythm from the field. Puetz is always on the move and her eye for the ball was evident as she was the team’s leading rebounder with 11 showing up on the glass at both ends. Puetz came through at the free throw line as well hitting 4-6 for 67 percent from the line.</span>
<b>Emelia Toerber, 5’9, G, 2021, Valley Heights</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">A solid Junior guard who has great size and the ability to play at the high and low post on defense and offense. She can create some with her handles and is confident shooting the ball and facilitating and making plays without the ball as well. She had a strong night and was second in scoring for Valley Heights with 12 points.</span>
