Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out at the event, with a look here at several senior guards.
To recap the quarterfinal scores, Nickerson beats Buhler, 63-36; KC Piper 63 got past Baldwin 48; Clay Center Community defeated Eudora, 47-42; and Bishop Miege defeated Chapman 60-45.
Kylie Adams, 5’6, G, 2020, Chapman
A nice defensive guard who can also make a strong showing on offense. Adams is a solid lead and scoring guard who can handle the ball and move well off of it. She looks to shoot when she has an opening and can rebound well for her size, too. She had 10 points and four rebounds in their loss to Bishop Miege.
Riley Heibert, 5’5, G, 2020, Eudora
A nice point guard who is a solid defender and a good team-player. Heibert can create with your dribble and is good at applying pressure and full court situations. She has a good eye for the ball and looks to facilitate and score when she has an open shot whether it’s from range or around the glass. An intelligent guard on both ends. Heibert scored eight points as well for Eudora.
Lexy Liby, 5’5, G, 2020, Clay Center
A seasoned guard who is quick and has a strong sense of spacing and movement off the ball. Liby who can make plays in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor. She has good speed and can come away with the ball and knock down shots from three-point range. Liby was an impactful player against Eudora and scored 15 points, all of which coming from the 3-point line.
Haley Miller, 4’11, G, 2020, Buhler
A nice leader and important player offensively for Buhler who looks to push the tempo and connect from outside. Miller is great at making plays with the ball in her hands and stays active and looks to move the ball and find operations and clear spots where she can score or where her teammates can be productive. Miller led her team in scoring against Nickerson with 10 points and had two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Nicolette Morgan, 5’3, G, 2020, Baldwin
Similar with teammate Riley Smith, Morgan also scored 11 points in the game against Piper. She can do a bit of everything and doesn’t always look to score on a regular basis. Morgan makes good decisions with the ball and is a strong defender on the perimeter.
