This class has a huge amount of talent and many athletes who are only beginning to reveal their potential. Here are five athletes that I’m looking forward to seeing in action this weekend.
Isabel Sullivan Isabel Sullivan 5'11" | SG Eastside Catholic | 2023 State WA | 5’8″ G | Eastside Catholic
Lefty Isabel Sullivan Isabel Sullivan 5'11" | SG Eastside Catholic | 2023 State WA is a lights-out shooter from deep. She has a quick trigger and her form hardly varies from one attempt to the next. On a stacked Eastside Catholic team with multiple guards that can get to the basket and forwards with the ability to dominate in the paint, Isabel will have the opportunity to become a prolific scorer from deep in the coming seasons. Earlier this year, Isabel had a 25-point outpouring against Lincoln High School (Seattle) in which she knocked down three 3-pointers. Although the three-ball is the strongest part of her game, Isabel does have the ability to get to the basket and finish with both hands. Aside from her shooting ability, Isabel is an outstanding athlete with the defensive acumen to jump passing lanes and trouble opponents with her on-ball defense.
Olivia Anderson Olivia Anderson 6'6" | PF Ellensburg | 2023 State #37 Nation WA | 6’4″ PF | Ellensburg
Olivia Anderson Olivia Anderson 6'6" | PF Ellensburg | 2023 State #37 Nation WA has great size and an impressive wingspan that will allow her to become a dominant defensive stopper as her career continues. Anderson is already getting plenty of attention from colleges which is all the more impressive considering she is relatively new to the sport. She has already seen great success on the grassroots circuit as a member of the NW Blazers – a team that took home the championship in lasts spring’s Heart of Texas National Showcase. Considering her size and raw talent, Olivia is among the most intriguing 2023 prospects and one who has a high a ceiling as just about anyone. *Featured Image
Sydney Hani Sydney Hani 6'1" | SF Lake Washington | 2023 State WA | 6’0″ F | Lake Washington
The Kangaroos bounced into this year’s state tournament thanks to an influx of young talent to support their solid upper-class foundation. Led by Rosa Smith Rosa Smith 5'7" | PG Lake Washington | 2022 State WA , Lake Washington continued to power their way through the state tournament, defeating top-seeded Eastside Catholic before losing in the final to a Garfield team with a whole lot of senior talent. For her part, Sydney Hani Sydney Hani 6'1" | SF Lake Washington | 2023 State WA gave her team consistency on the offensive end of the court, averaging 5.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg as well as a little over 1 block per game. Her best game of the season was a 13 point game on 6 of 16 shooting. Sydney’s offensive output will continue to improve with more experience, but she has already had a big impact defensively. Between Sydney and older sister Elise, coach Jeff Wilson has a one-two punch of imposing size and talent, and even though Sydney is four inches shorter than 6’4″ Elise, there will be few games where Sydney isn’t the strongest athlete on the court. As effective as Sydney Hani Sydney Hani 6'1" | SF Lake Washington | 2023 State WA has been this season, her skills are pretty raw, and she has a high ceiling to move toward in the coming years.
Amelie Sitterud Amelie Sitterud 6'0" | SG Tahoma | 2023 State WA | 6’0″ G/F | Eastside Catholic
One of the many freshmen stars for the Crusaders, Amelie Sitterud Amelie Sitterud 6'0" | SG Tahoma | 2023 State WA is a strong 6’0″ guard with the ability to play with her back to the basket in the paint as well. Sitterud has solid range from deep, and although she doesn’t have the explosive athleticism of some of her teammates, she plays with a relaxed confidence that allows her to see the court and make good passes, she can get to the rim with a reliable spin move, and she can finish with both hands. Sitterud has great physicality on both ends of the court, and she has the potential to be a defensive stopper against opposing forwards.
Myana Calloway Myana Calloway 5'7" | CG Bellevue | 2023 WA | 5’6″ CG | Hazen
Myana Calloway Myana Calloway 5'7" | CG Bellevue | 2023 WA of Hazen had a great year for the Highlanders in which she averaged 8.2 ppg, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 steals. Calloway has the ability to shoot from deep, but she has some room for improvement in terms of her percentages. The strongest part of Calloway’s game is her ability to play in traffic on both ends of the court. With solid ball-handling, speed, and strength, she can get to the rim and finish around defenders, and on defense, she sees the game well enough to anticipate passes and collect steals that she can turn into fast-break points. Calloway had five games this season with double-digit scoring at 40% or better from the field, and her best performance of the year was a 13 point, 7 rebound game in a loss to Tahoma.
