State Tournament Live Blog: Day 2
We are out at the state tournament all day today and will be bringing you updates all game long both on Twitter and via this live update page. You can watch all of the games here. We will be updating this blog at the end of each game with a short blurb on the game as well as leading scorers. Be sure to follow along on Twitter as we will be updating there all day long.
3A Quarterfinal: #3 Bishop Heelan (50) vs. #6 Des Moines Christian (38)
The last 3A quarterfinal game saw a defensive battle as both teams really struggled early in the game. The half time score was just 17-15 in favor of Bishop Heelan but they came out quicker in the third quarter and scored 18 points in the frame. Des Moines Christian only led for :43 in the entire game and they just couldn’t get any close than six for the entirety of the second half. Bishop Heelan forced 22 turnovers in the game which led to 21 points off turnovers.

4A Quarterfinal: #1 North Scott (63) vs. #8 Clear Creek-Amana (43)
North Scott led the game throughout as they had no trouble getting by Clear Creek-Amana. They got off to an early hot start and never looked back after leading 25-9 at the end of the first quarter. North Scott forced 14 turnovers and was able to turn those into 13 points off turnovers. The defending 4A champions move on to the semi-finals.

4A Quarterfinal: #4 Center Point-Urbana (45) vs. #5 Waverly-Shell Rock (41) – OT
Waverly-Shell Rock was in control for most of the game as they held a 21-13 lead going into the half. Waverly-Shell Rock held an 11-point lead halfway through the third quarter before Center Point-Urbana stormed back. Center Point-Urbana could never take the lead in regulation but got their first lead in overtime and were able to pull out the win.

4A Quarterfinal: #2 Glenwood (89) vs. #7 Gilbert (75)
Glenwood and Gilbert scored the ball early and often as they combined for 164 points in a very exciting quarterfinal game. Glenwood was led by Madison Camden and Jenna Hopp who each had 21 points in the win. Glenwood led by 11 points in the third quarter before Gilbert cut it to one point. Glenwood was able to continually break the Gilbert pressure and was able to continuously take the ball to the rim. Glenwood shot 45 free throws in a game that saw Gilbert shoot 13 free throws. Glenwood was able to get to the rim much easier and they were rewarded.

4A Quarterfinal: #3 Ballard (46) vs. Lewis Central (47)
Ballard got off to a good start early on but Lewis Central continued to stick around. Delaney Esterling scored 21 points in the game for Lewis Central and was able to help them pull through in the end. Lewis Central went on a run and grabbed the lead by seven points with just over 1:20 to go. Ballard then was able to score nine points in a row to take a two-point lead. A basket by Esterling with three seconds left propelled them to overtime. Lewis Central outscored Ballard 3-2 in the overtime period to bring home the win.

2A Quarterfinal: #1 Cascade (41) vs. #8 Denver (28)
Cascade and Denver locked into a defensive battle as both teams scored about 20 points less than their season average. Cascade was able to hold Denver to just three points in the first half and then they scored just five more in the second quarter. Cascade held a 26-8 advantage at the half and that was more than enough to hold on for the win. Nicole McDermott sparked Cascade with 19 points as she continuously got to the basket in the win.

2A Quarterfinal: #4 Osage (50) vs. #5 West Branch (41)
Osage staved off a big West Branch run that saw them grab a 10-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Osage’s height and length really pushed West Branch to the brink and they were able to use that to grab 43 rebounds in the game. Osage had a six-point lead late in the third quarter but a West Branch 8-0 run over the last 1:30 of the quarter put West Branch in front at the end of the quarter. Osage was able to make some plays late in the game and closed out the game by only allowing six fourth-quarter points.
