2023 Rankings Review: Shooting Guards

Combined with the point guards, 55% of the Top 100 are guards in some form. While there are only 22 shooting guards the talent at the top is just the same. [player_tooltip player_id="63032" first="Kelsey" last="Joens"] takes our top spot in the shooting guard rankings as she ranks in at #2 overall. Joens is closely followed by [player_tooltip player_id="63558" first="Jenna" last="Hopp"], [player_tooltip player_id="63011" first="Makayla" last="Boatman"], [player_tooltip player_id="127632" first="Jenna" last="Twedt"], and [player_tooltip player_id="63070" first="Meena" last="Tate"] in the top five. All four of those players certainly have the capability to crack the Top 15 in their careers and stay there. This is a very deep class as names such as [player_tooltip player_id="127616" first="Haidyn" last="Hull"] and [player_tooltip player_id="63010" first="Aaliyah" last="Beier"] I had expected to have ranked higher but there is just so much talent. If you break into the Top 50 in the state, you’re a very solid player. Even past the Top 7, you have shooting guards who have shown flashes but haven’t consistently put it together yet. Players such as [player_tooltip player_id="127615" first="Finley" last="Hall"], [player_tooltip player_id="160560" first="Kaitlyn" last="Mumm"], and [player_tooltip player_id="63063" first="Liza" last="Schaffer"] have shown the ability to play at a high level and will move up with more consistency within their game. This 2023 class looks to be just as talented as the group of 2020 guards we had this past year. You already have a couple of these guards being recruited by Division I schools and I expect that many more will soon start to be.
