The MHSAA has officially called off and canceled high school winter and spring sports due to the health issues the world is facing. Now that the basketball games are officially over, I’ll look at what might have been if the playoffs had been able to be finished.
The Division 1 field was talented and extremely deep this season. I’ll take a look at what I think would have happened in the quarterfinals.
Check out how we got to the semifinals and championship games in our look at the hypothetical results of the regional championships and quarterfinals:

THE SEMIFINALS

Detroit Renaissance vs. East Lansing

Prediction: Detroit Renaissance
This is a matchup between 2 powerhouse teams. Detroit Renaissance just has so many offensive weapons that were all playing really good basketball at the same time.
Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id="28015" first="Mikyah" last="Finley"] (2021, SG, Detroit Renaissance)
Finley is a smart player that has really good shot selection. She doesn’t need to be ball dominant to score, which benefits her greatly against a good defensive team like East Lansing. I think Finley steps up with a double-double in points and rebounds to lead Detroit Renaissance to the championship game.

Saline vs. Hartland

Prediction: Hartland
It was a historic run by the Hornets, but the championship game is where Hartland was destined to be this season. They use their depth and let the seniors take them to the title game.
Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id="23748" first="Whitney" last="Sollom"] (2020, PF, Hartland)
Sollom would once again put up a double-double in points and rebounds. She would make any points in the paint tough for Saline.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Detroit Renaissance vs. Hartland

Prediction: Detroit Renaissance
This game is a coin flip and both teams are worthy Division 1 state champions. The Renaissance team was just playing so well on defense. They pressured the ball and forced turnovers, controlling the game on that end. Defense is what wins championships so I’ll go with arguably the toughest defensive team in Michigan.
Most Outstanding Player: [player_tooltip player_id="138299" first="Kailee" last="Davis"] (2021, PG, Detroit Renaissance)
It says something about a player when they are the leader in the midst of tons of talent. Detroit Renaissance has D1 college prospects all over their lineup. But Davis is the kingpin. The waterbug floor general paces the squad. She uses her vertical and horizontal quickness to cause chaos on defensive and to create space from her defender on offense. This season, [player_tooltip player_id="138299" first="Kailee" last="Davis"] leads Detroit Renaissance to a state championship.
