Continue ReadingThe 2022 class was an interesting class to make the distinction between top players, as the upcoming seniors have had a few years to improve their skills as many made all league honors and some were the player of the year. Upcoming sophomores were easier to isolate the standouts because of the fact that they displayed precocious talents and were given playing time and made the most out of it. However, with the upcoming juniors, a large percentage of them were still figuring out their strengths or may have even just gotten to the ranks of playing. However, there were a particular few who stood out more so than the others. Abby Graham Abby Graham 5'10" | SG St. Mary's Academy | 2022 State OR for St. Mary’s Academy was on a tear this season, playing at a high level all year long and one of the reason’s for their success. Cali Denson Cali Denson 5'7" | SG Milwaukie | 2022 OR , who averaged 27 points as a freshman continued her offensive genius as she made headlines for her shooting exploits. Charlotte Richman Charlotte Richman 5'7" | PG Wilson | 2022 State OR is another offensive standout that managed to make 1st Team All-PIL, whereas Churchill’s Dani Starr Dani Starr 6'1" | SG Sheldon | 2022 State OR was her conference’s Player of the Year as a sophomore. Halle Hageman Halle Hageman 5'6" | SG Mountainside | 2022 State OR had several big moments at Mountainside this past season including a 21 point performance to lead them to a victory over defending State Champions Benson Tech in a double overtime thriller.
Abby Graham Abby Graham 5'10" | SG St. Mary's Academy | 2022 State OR 2022 5’10″ SG (St. Mary’s Academy) – (Pictured) Highly skilled guard who constantly knows where she is on the basketball court. Scores with high marks, as she has a nose for the basket and is a consistent enough shooter. Finds players in their spots and knows when to dish it out to them. Knows how to play uptempo and plays at an excellent pace but understands when to bump it down a notch. Scraps for loose balls and rebounds and tries to get a hand in every possession. Dynamic player with a high IQ.
Cali Denson Cali Denson 5'7" | SG Milwaukie | 2022 OR 2022 5’7″ SG (Milwaukie HS) – The dynamic, highly skilled scorer managed to join the 1,000 club – halfway in her sophomore year. Denson is a dynamic ball handler that can pull up in a moment’s notice and can split the defense and finish acrobatically. Advanced offensively with an onset of moves and gets in done defensively, digging into opponents and has a knack for the steal. Can shoot it – off the bounce or off the dribble, has a nice runner, as she is one of the State’s most exciting scorers.
Charlotte Richman Charlotte Richman 5'7" | PG Wilson | 2022 State OR 2022 5’7″ SG (Wilson HS) – Dynamic guard for Wilson knows how to score in a hurry and does it effectively and skillfully. Confident with the ball and employs a variety of dribble combo moves to find her spot mid-range but can take it inside on a whim. Her agility allows her to be a solid defender, whereas her effort allows her to get in the passing lanes, where she is dangerous in the open court. Knows how to find teammates and rebounds well for her size.
Dani Starr Dani Starr 6'1" | SG Sheldon | 2022 State OR 2022 6’1″ SG (Churchill HS) – Big guard that combines size with fundamental guard skills. Knows how to play midpost and make a quick move towards the basket and automatic with a nice touch ten to fifteen feet out. Quick and has great footwork around the basket provides for easy scores for Starr. Rebounds well, defends well with her long arms, overall great team player. Leader that gets the job done and leads by example.
Halle Hageman Halle Hageman 5'6" | SG Mountainside | 2022 State OR 2022 5’6″ SG (Mountainside HS) – Smooth operator that has a tenacity about her on the court. She was depended on by Mountainside to be a leader that had great court vision. She began her efforts on the defensive end, where she bothered her defensive assignments all season long. Sharp player that will play a big role for Mountainside with Brink’s graduation.
