The 2023 is a versatile class like any other as shown through the wide variety of different skill sets in the players. This also alludes to their post players, as several individuals displayed a nice range of down low capability during their time as freshmen. [player_tooltip player_id="158558" first="Eliza" last="Buerk"] is a traditional forward that brings the typical skills you’d see within someone playing in the paint. Meanwhile, [player_tooltip player_id="158540" first="Onna" last="Brown"] of Benson and Roosevelt’s [player_tooltip player_id="158546" first="Finley" last="Heslam"] are hybrid type players with big game who are so multi-dimensional that playing down low is merely an option for them. [player_tooltip player_id="158563" first="Rilyn" last="Quirke"] and [player_tooltip player_id="158550" first="Beaux" last="Bruegman"] both played significant roles for their respective teams while displaying solid post skills as a part of their arsenal. Here are the best post players of the class of 2023.
<span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158558" first="Eliza" last="Buerk"] 2023 6’1" PF La Salle HS</strong> - Developing big that has the skill set but simply needs the playing time and experience to put it all together. She is sound around the basket with good rebounding awareness and general touch, as her size and footwork go hand in hand. Eliza is a good help side defender with good instincts and she has the ability to be a great presence on that end of the court. Persistent and capable to take her post game further, next season will be a big jump as far as her numbers go.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158540" first="Onna" last="Brown"] 2023 5’11" SF Benson HS</strong> - Aggressive, fearless scorer for Benson who goes for it on the offensive end and does it with much swagger and determination, as she made Second Team All-PIL her freshman season. She showed that she is fully capable of big performances, illustrated by her 26 point masterpiece versus Mountainside in a 67-70 OT loss. Onna is active on the offensive boards and gets several putbacks solely based on her sheer will. She is naturally a wing but can roll up her sleeves and play in the post with everybody else fueled by her grit and willingness to battle.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158563" first="Rilyn" last="Quirke"] 2023 6’0" PF Barlow HS</strong> - Rilyn is incredibly active and aggressive around the basket on both ends of the floor, making an impact with her aggressiveness and instincts. At the rim, she protects the basket with her length and attacks defenders with poise and timing, resulting in big blocks for the forward. Good hands that allow her to finish in a multitude of ways around the basket despite awkward angles. The most intriguing part of her offensive repertoire is her mid-post dribble game, as she is both decisive and elusive. </span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158546" first="Finley" last="Heslam"] 2023 5’9" SF Roosevelt HS</strong> -Athletic forward for Roosevelt who had the opportunity to showcase her skills right away, receiving Honorable Mention in the PIL along the way. She is a raw basketball player, but her raw athleticism was shown immediately, as she is extremely fluid and has good offensive instincts and awareness. Nice touch around the basket and has a good sense of where opponents are, as she can finish around the basket with an exclamation point. </span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158550" first="Beaux" last="Bruegman"] 2023 5’10" SF Sheldon HS</strong> - Beaux is one of the more put together posts of the class, as she played a big role for Sheldon last season. She hustled and ran the floor well, resulting in steals and fastbreaks, showing good motor during transition. Bruegman is an excellent defender that gets a lot of blocked shots down low due to the fact that these skills are translated from her time as a volleyball player. She has a solid frame that she uses well for rebounding and can get a bucket down low as well as displays a solid mid-range game.</span>
