Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Grace Hennessy Grace Hennessy 5'10" | PF Denver | 2023 State IA – Denver
Denver led a late season surge to a run through regionals, claiming a title and advancing to the state tournament.
The Cyclones did it with a mix of young and old, including freshman Grace Hennessy Grace Hennessy 5'10" | PF Denver | 2023 State IA , who found her way into the starting lineup most nights.
Hennessy scored 256 points to finish second on Denver, shooting 40 percent from the field with 27 made three-pointers. She also had 143 rebounds, 50 steals, 36 blocks and 34 assists.
Hallee Feaker Hallee Feaker 5'9" | PG South Hamilton | 2023 State IA – South Hamilton
Freshman Hallee Feaker Hallee Feaker 5'9" | PG South Hamilton | 2023 State IA jumped right into the fire for South Hamilton, leading the team in scoring at just over eight points per game.
Feaker also was one of two players with over 100 rebounds, collecting 111 boards with 30 steals, 15 assists and 11 made three-pointers. She could see a jump in her scoring with improvements from the field and free throw line.
Emma Martinek – West Fork
Freshman Emma Martinek finished her first varsity season second on the West Fork team in rebounding with 87 boards.
Martinek, one of several underclassmen to see the court, also added 106 points, 10 blocks and eight made three-pointers.
Ellie Weaver – West Fork
Another freshman regular in the lineup for West Fork, Ellie Weaver showed her versatility to promise this past year.
Weaver contributed 85 points with 56 rebounds, 47 steals and 44 assists, finishing as three players on the team with over 40 steals and assists.
Ellen Waller – Aplington-Parkersburg
Aplington-Parkersburg had a bit of a secret weapon in freshman Ellen Waller.
Waller, though, will not be able to sneak up on anybody after making 34 percent of her three-pointers this past year. She finished with 16 made triples in all, scoring 83 points with 38 rebounds, 30 assists and 13 steals.
