Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
Kennedy Arens – Dyersville Beckman
Dyersville Beckman’s leading scorer this past winter was junior Kennedy Arens, who averaged over 13 points a night.
Arens helped the Trailblazers win nine games, including seven in the WaMaC, by shooting almost 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from long-range.
She finished the year with 305 total points, 111 rebounds, 60 steals and 49 assists.
Annie Gahan – Iowa City Regina
Much will be expected out of Iowa City Regina senior-to-be Annie Gahan this coming year after scoring 11 points per night and almost five rebounds.
Gahan was effective from most spots on the court, shooting almost 40 percent from the field and 60 percent at the free throw line. She finished with 33 made 3-pointers to go along with 114 rebounds, 56 steals and 25 assists.
Megan Neighbor – Alburnett
Alburnett was right there in terms of securing a winning season, and with leading returning scorer Megan Neighbor back, the Pirates might be able to do that in 2020-21.
Neighbor scored almost 12 points per night, shooting 36 percent from the floor, 29 percent from the 3-point line and 72 percent at the free throw line.
To go along with 237 points, she also had 118 rebounds, 65 steals, 33 assists and blocked 13 shots.
Emma Fowler – Northeast
Northeast will lean on Emma Fowler to replace the loss of production from the senior class.
Fowler scored 235 points as a junior for the Rebels, shooting nearly 40 percent from the field to go along with 22 made 3-pointers. She was also effective at the charity stripe, sinking 65 percent of her attempts.
She also ended the year second on the team with 159 rebounds to go along with 32 steals.
Jenna Syring – North Cedar
Jenna Syring is the leading returning rebounder from the region, as she recorded 263 boards this past winter for North Cedar.
Syring, a true post player, should have a great chance at averaging a double-double after sitting at eight points and 12 rebounds per night.
She was very effective on the offensive glass for the Knights, grabbing an average of 4.7 offensive boards a night.
