As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed. Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible. We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges. We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons. [player_tooltip player_id="129086" first="Allison" last="Piercy"] - Spencer Al [player_tooltip player_id="129086" first="Allison" last="Piercy"] did as a sophomore for Spencer was lead the team in scoring and rebounding. Piercy produced 14 points and nearly five rebounds a night, shooting 46 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent at the free throw line. She finished with 321 total points, 106 rebounds, 44 assists and 41 steals, making 39 triples in all. As one of five players back with starting experience, the Tigers should be primed for a big year. [player_tooltip player_id="63580" first="Brooke" last="Loewe"] - Ballard When it came to production in 2019-20, Ballard’s Class of 2022’s [player_tooltip player_id="63580" first="Brooke" last="Loewe"] contributed in just about every category. Loewe finished with 261 points in 24 games, adding 95 assists, 89 rebounds and 73 steals for the Bombers, who went 22-2 before suffering a 47-46 loss to Lewis Central in the state tournament. She shot nearly 40 percent from the field and 38 percent from the three-point line, making 53 triples in all. Loewe was also a 71 percent shooter from the free throw stripe. [player_tooltip player_id="107012" first="Jada" last="Williams"] - Mason City [player_tooltip player_id="107012" first="Jada" last="Williams"] is the next in a long line of standout guards to come through Mason City. And she still has two seasons to prove herself. Williams ended her sophomore season with 220 points to go along with 98 rebounds, 90 assists and 41 steals, adding in seven blocked shots. She shot nearly 42 percent from the field and 64 percent at the free throw line. With better shooting from long-range, look for Williams to have an even stronger junior campaign. Meg Rietz - Ballard Another key piece back in the fold for Ballard is Meg Rietz. Rietz, who came off the bench for the most part, still produced, finishing with 137 points on 46 percent shooting from the field. She also contributed 71 rebounds, 46 steals, 24 assists and nine blocked shots. [player_tooltip player_id="129072" first="Kelly" last="Stoakes"] - Webster City [player_tooltip player_id="129072" first="Kelly" last="Stoakes"] from Webster City is an all-around athlete who found herself playing a big role on the basketball court last year. Stoakes scored 94 points with 50 rebounds, 26 assists and 24 steals. Included in her totals was 21 offensive boards. With another year of experience under her belt, Stoakes should seen improvements across the way in her shooting percentages.
