Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Tory Bennett – Fort Dodge
A multi-sport standout for Fort Dodge, Class of 2022’s Tory Bennett had a breakout sophomore season.
Bennett scored 221 points in 20 games for the Dodgers, adding 149 rebounds with 57 assists and 53 steals. She also scored a 5-on-5 school-record 37 points earlier this year in a win over Des Moines Hoover.
Despite being listed at just 5-foot-4, Bennett was second on the team in rebounding. She also made 43 percent of her shots and knocked down 22 three-pointers.
Reagan Bartholomew Reagan Bartholomew 5'10" | SF Waukee | 2022 State IA – Waukee
Despite being just a sophomore, Reagan Bartholomew Reagan Bartholomew 5'10" | SF Waukee | 2022 State IA found herself in a key role for Waukee.
Bartholomew started six games and played in 26 for the Class 5A runners-up, scoring 213 points with 67 rebounds, 47 assists, 36 steals and 12 blocks. The guard shot almost 44 percent from the floor and made 26 three-pointers.
Madison Craighead – Sioux City North
Thrown right into the fire, Sioux City North’s Madison Craighead excelled, scoring 173 points with 207 rebounds.
Craighead had 70 offensive boards to go along with 29 steals, 17 assists and six blocked shots. She shot 35 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free throw stripe for the Stars.
Gabby Wagner – Sioux City West
Gabby Wagner has a lot to build upon after a standout sophomore campaign.
The Sioux City West prospect recorded 172 points on 42 percent shooting from the field and 74 percent from the line. Wagner also had 67 assists, 49 steals, 41 rebounds and a handful of blocked shots.
Aleaha Pommer – Fort Dodge
Another returning starter for the Dodgers this winter will be Class of 2022’s Aleaha Pommer.
Pommer recorded 185 points on 34 percent shooting from the floor, adding 19 made three-pointers. She also had 137 rebounds, 40 steals, 26 assists and blocked a team-high 14 shots.
