Continue ReadingThis past Sunday I turned my car towards Northern Indiana and headed to The Zone in Plymouth, Indiana, for the LBI Michigan Jamboree, co-hosted by Lady Ballers Insider and Always 100 . The event showcased some talented young ladies, and it was a great opportunity for me to get eyes on a few teams for the first time this Summer. Below is a look at the 16U Indiana teams I was able to catch throughout the afternoon. If a team you follow was there and I didn’t get the opportunity to see them, I will seek them out in the next few weeks.
(There will be another article posted on PGH Michigan, but it will be limited to Michigan prospects I evaluated. There were several Michigan teams in Plymouth.)
Always 100
– Todd
I saw this group last year, and one thing is consistent about them…they are an incredibly hard-working unit who collectively outplay their talent. I really liked some of the things 5-8 forward

John Glenn | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of John Glenn did. She has an athletically strong frame, she moves fairly well in most directions, and she has a nice inside-out skillset. She is probably best in the mid-post, but she can step outside on occasion or post undersized defenders effectively. I also felt like 5-9 power forward Makenzy Meyer (2022) of Manchester played well in spots. She is another strong forward, but she’s much more comfortable inside the paint. She does a nice job of boxing out and rebounding, plus she can score it a little bit around the rim. 5-7 point guard

Norwell | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Norwell still needs to build more strength, but she is playing stronger and does a nice job of taking care of the basketball. She rarely seems phased by defensive pressure, and she understands how to run offense. I also really like her length and fluid athleticism. One additional player who has some athletic talent is 5-8 guard Meg Camomile (2022) of Homestead. She has a wiry strong frame, she’s a very nice athlete in most directions, and she has a solid skillset. If she can eventually develop a niche offensively, I think she has the talent to get on some small college radars as a recruit.
Always 100
– Wright
Coach Wright’s 16U group has very good balance and noticeable talent in just about every position group. I was most impressed with the development of 6-0 power forward

Fort Wayne Concordia | 2023
State
IN
(2023) of Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran. If she continues on this trajectory, I’d anticipate her drawing some Division-I interest once those coaches are allowed to get out and see her. She is wiry strong, athletic, plus she plays with a motor. She can put it on the floor a little and attack, but she also still shows comfort on the low-block. Another potential standout is 5-9 wing

Angola | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Angola. She is incredibly long, fluid, and somewhat smooth. She plays sort of a point forward role, but she can also shoot the ball at all three levels. She still needs strength but definitely looks stronger, plus she’s doing more things effectively this year. I thought 5-7 point guard

Northridge | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Northridge also played well. She seems like quite a cerebral floor general who takes care of the ball and gets it where it needs to go. Plus, she plays with a good motor, has length, and she’s a nice all-around athlete. I think 5-7 guard J’Asia “J.J.” Scott (2022) of Fort Wayne Northrop has a great deal of upside as well. She’s strong, quick and explosive, and she is a playmaker off the bounce. She can play a little too fast at times, but it doesn’t seem like she makes the same mistake twice once she gets coached up.
Always 100
Tigers – Krebs
This team is an interesting mix of multiple graduating classes this year, but I was most impressed with 5-8 wing

Warsaw | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Warsaw Community. She looks a little taller, longer, stronger, and leaner this year, and she is playing more explosively. She has a solid handle, plays a point forward role, and she does a really nice job of creating offense for herself or teammates. One of the more intriguing prospects who I had never seen before, was maybe 6-0 post Giselle Eke (2024) of Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger. She has broad shoulders, a strong frame, and she looks like she has the potential to develop into a powerful low-block prospect over the next four years. She played with a solid motor, ran the floor fairly well, and didn’t necessarily look out of place playing up two age groups. 5-8 small forward

Penn | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Penn is a Swiss Army Knife for this team. She is one of those kids who doesn’t necessarily do anything at an elite level, but she does a little bit of everything to help her team. She has a wiry strong frame, solid athleticism, and she plays with a good motor. I also think 5-7 point guard

Prairie Heights | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Prairie Heights can develop into a nice small college guard. She will definitely need to get stronger, but she has really good length, she’s fluid in all directions, and she has a nice overall feel for the game.
Indiana Attack Basketball Club (IABC) – Leek
This Attack club doesn’t have a great deal of size, but they have some really competitive guards and wings who play their tails off. This was my first look at 5-9 small forward

Elkhart | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Elkhart’s newly consolidated high school…Elkhart High…and she was impressive in spots. She has an athletic frame, good length, and she played with a nice motor. She is certainly an athlete, as she bounces around the floor, she rebounds the ball well for her size, and she can attack the basket and finish. If she can develop a consistent perimeter jumper, she’ll have a lot of college interest moving forward. 5-6 point guard

Warsaw | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Warsaw Community is another member of an impressive 2022 class for the Tigers. She is a strong guard who plays with a ton of energy. She has very good ball skill, she is a nice downhill attacker from the point, and she will get into her matchup defensively as well. The more I watch 5-7 point guard

South Bend St. Joseph | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of South Bend Saint Joseph, the more I really like her pace. She is a patient guard who uses her skillset and strong frame to her advantage. She can handle, pass, and knock down open rhythm jumpers outside. I also really like the feistiness/toughness of 5-5 guard Payton Rangel (2022) of Mishawaka Marian. She has some strength, a good motor, and nice all-around athleticism. She is always trying to make a play, no matter which end of the floor she’s on.
