Multiple players traveled from DC, Maryland and Virginia to the suburbs of Philadelphia for Joe Fenelon's NYG Hoops Friday Night Lights individual showcase. Here are some of the standouts from the event.
[player_tooltip player_id="149858" first="Kymora" last="Johnson"], 2023 Guard, Boo Williams
Ky’mora was one of the better players in the gym. She routinely blew by defenders and scored in the paint. She used her ball handling skills to keep defenders off balance and knocked down some long threes to keep them guessing. She displayed some play making ability as well by drawing defenders and dishing off to teammates for easy buckets. I loved watching her play.
[player_tooltip player_id="136439" first="Lauryn" last="Russell"], Combo Guard, Power Move
Lauryn was really there for all the smoke at this showcase. She went out of her way to strap up against some of the better guards in the event and usually held her own on defense. She launched and knocked down some long threes in transition and in the half court setting. Her point guard skills are developing and she is showing some nice versatility in her game. I love the competitiveness she brings.
[player_tooltip player_id="136427" first="Nyshae" last="Weaver"], 2021 Wing, Power Move
Nyshae is an SEC level athlete that is trying to bring her game up to that level. The smooth six footer has added some range to her shot and has been putting up three pointers this summer with confidence. Her hops allow her to score in the paint easily and gobble up rebounds. She looked confident handling the ball and is always enthusiastic on the bench while supporting her teammates.
[player_tooltip player_id="136425" first="Larrin" last="Sydnor"], 2021 Wing, Power Move
"Rinny" is the type of player every team needs. She defends at a high level, is super athletic and has a non-stop motor. Her offensive game is emerging and she proved that by making some nice shots around the basket and in transition. She does a lot of little things to spark her team.
[player_tooltip player_id="142833" first="Anaiah" last="Jenkins"], 2023 Forward, Philly Belles
Ms. Jenkins looks like she is all the way back from her ACL injury. This was an impressive outing for the six footer as she looked physically explosive and imposing. She finished in the paint, grabbed offensive boards by jumping over people and showed a nice touch. Defensively she was a presence in the lane and showed good instincts. She just stood out in this one.
Jasmine Dickey, 2022 Point Guard, MD Lady Tigers
Another Baltimore guard who had a nice showing. Ashley is a high motored lefty that scraps on every defensive possession. She made a couple of pull up jumpers in transition and got into the lane pretty easily.
