The Covid-19 pandemic has certainty made things interesting this summer for basketball prospects. The lack of circuit exposure has hurt some more than others. In addition, I can’t even imagine the strain it has put on parents who are looking to navigate avenues for their kids to get the best opportunity. We all got dealt a bad hand in one way or another.
With that being said, I would like to highlight some players in the upcoming senior class. The 2021 group has been adversely affected as their opportunity to receive exposure is marginalized by our current state. I hope I can shine a light on some players to help them continue on their college journey.
Let’s jump into part two of this list...
[player_tooltip player_id="91541" first="Deborrah" last="Redmon"] - Benjamin School
With 2020 [player_tooltip player_id="91389" first="Emma" last="Laszewski"] gone, Redmon jumps up as the Lady Bucs top returning scorer from last season. The rising senior averaged 10.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 3.6 assists per game as a junior. Redmon is a versatile player, capable of contributing at the point guard, shooting guard and small forward positions. Moreover, her range on the defensive end helped her tally 115 steals. Against North Broward Prep, Redmon had 17 points, 12 steals and seven assists. The Benjamin School went 22-6 last season so expectations should remain high.
[player_tooltip player_id="91548" first="Tamaya" last="Patterson"] - Atlantic
Once again, the loss of 2020 [player_tooltip player_id="91468" first="Amari" last="Allen"] leaves Patterson as the top returning scorer for Atlantic. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 14.0 points, 5.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 steals as a junior. A consistent scorer, Patterson posted double-figure efforts in 13 games last season. Against Martin County, the rising senior scored a season-high 22 points and knocked down three 3-pointers. 2021 Markayla Clinton is also a player to watch. Clinton averaged 10.4 points, 4.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game. The 5-foot-9 wing is a good shooter, connecting on 47 percent of her attempts. Against Seminole Ridge, Clinton had a triple-double with 15 points, ten assists and ten rebounds.
Aayden Ghee - Jupiter
With a quartet of players returning, the Jupiter Warriors should be a top team once again in Palm Beach. The Warriors are coming off an 18-9 season and return 5-foot-9 guard/forward Aayden Ghee. Ghee averaged 15.6 points and 10.3 rebounds as a junior. Against Palm Beach Central, the rising senior scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The Warriors also return Elliana Manzo, Veronica Edwards and Lexi Lynch. The trio combined for 29 points, 15 rebounds and eight steals per game. Edwards is a particular player to watch as she is a 6-foot-2 center. Overall, Jupiter has plenty of talent on all levels of the floor.
Cassidy Lowe - Boca Raton
If Boca Raton is going to recap its 20-4 season, Lowe will be a big factor. The 5-foot-9 Bobcat averaged 9.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.3 steals last season. Lowe dominated inside the paint for Boca Raton with eight games of ten or more boards. Against Park Vista, Lowe tied a season-high with 16 points and grabbed ten rebounds. The rising senior is a playmaker at both forward spots and can play shooting guard as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="91546" first="Gabriela" last="Bendeck"] - Miami Christian
It would be a good idea to game plan against Bendeck because she can flat out score. The 5-foot-4 guard averaged 19.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.9 steals as a junior. In ten games for Miami Christian, Bendeck scored 20 or more points. Against Keys Gate, the risings senior went off for 31 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Moreover, Bendeck is sneaky good around the glass with three other games with ten or more boards. The Victor captain can also hit from outside, knocking down four 3-pointers in that contest against the Knights. Miami Christian will look to capitalize on a 20-7 record with her at the helm.
