One thing that is important to understand is that with the addition of Brian Carman to our team we have defined some territories. For the purposes of stories like this I will now only be writing about players south of Quincy/Jacksonville/Springfield/Decatur and Tuscola over to the border. Mt Zion is the only school that is on the border that is possibly unclear, that will be in my area. It is obviously not a straight line from West to East, but a line none the less. That will allow Brian and I to ensure when we write articles like this that there is a clear and defined area for us to use so that we do not try to recognize the same players and therefore get recognition for more players.
With that, here is the final list, the 2024’s.
- Amiah Hargrove is a 6’2 Forward from Christopher and Brad Beal Elite. Amiah played up with the 15u team and showed some of the special talent that she has. She took a week or so to adjust to the game, her role and maybe to gain some confidence in playing with her new team. But, once Amiah turned the corner it was hard to keep your eyes off her. Amiah has the strength and size to compete in the lane but is also developing her skills to play on the wing. She can hit the 3-point shot and has a nice pull up jumper that she can use as a weapon. Amiah has the potential to go far in this game, it will be fun to watch her in high school.
- Denver Anderson is a 5’11 Forward from Mt. Zion and Predators/Indiana Elite Havoc. Denver is another player that has that ability to play inside and outside on offense. She has a very good 3-point shot that is her main weapon when out on the wing. Denver is very capable of scoring in the paint where she can use her length and athletic ability to score over or around other players. Denver runs well for her size so she can play comfortably in an up tempo game.
- Addi Shrader is a 5’9 wing from Charleston and Indiana Elite Havoc. Addi is a long athlete that runs, jumps and defends very well. She really showed an improved shooting stroke late in the season that will make her a real weapon on offense. She has the ability to attack the rim with her speed and length which will pair well with the improved shooting. On defense Addi can end up being one of the best around with her natural athletic ability and long arms.
- Jilyan Burgener is a 5’8 guard from Central A&M and Predators/Indiana Elite Havoc. Jilyan is a nice left handed scorer that has a very smooth and repeatable shooting stroke out to the 3-point line. She does a good job of recognizing when it is time to put the ball on the floor and go to the rim as defenders try to take away that shot. Jilyan is a smart player that will find the open player and deliver good passes instead of forcing shots.
- Grace Nelson is a 5’8 Guard from Altamont and Indiana Elite Havoc. Grace is a very athletic combo guard that can lead the team via the point guard position or score 20 points from off the off guard spot. She is very fast and a top level long jumper in track so she has the speed and jumping ability that she will need to be a high level basketball player. Grace handles the ball well and uses her speed well in the open floor or to explode on a drive to the hole in the half court. She is also an elite level defender that can shut down opposing guards.
- Josie Armstrong is a 5’8 Guard from Tri County and played AAU for Torment and Indiana Elite Havoc. Josie is an athletic player that can score off the bounce and also has a very nice shot. She is very smart player that sees the game well and makes the right play for her team. Josie is a nice combo guard that can handle it some and with improvement in her ball handling may eventually see some time as a point guard.
- Marissa Zane is a 5’7 Guard from Robinson and Indiana Elite Havoc. Marissa has length and is an athletic player that does very well in the open floor. She uses her length well on the defensive end to cause deflections. Marissa does a god job of finding ways to score both off the bounce and can hit the shot off the catch.
- Claire Seal is a 5’9 Forward from Mahomet and Indiana Elite Havoc. Claire is a force on the boards on both ends of the floor and a good defender. She gets points every game via her relentless work on the boards. Claire can use her dribble to get in the lane and will finish in traffic. As Claire improves her range on her shot and continues to focus on her ball handling she has a chance to be an excellent player.
