Anyone that has watched football on Thanksgiving Day has seen The Madden Turkey Leg Award. Today I’ll name two players as the 2020 Turkey Day Award Winners. These two players epitomize what high school basketball should be all about. Fittingly, we as a state are thankful for the opportunity to watch these two players perform. Check out our past winners, featuring future community leaders and college basketball players.

The Kent City record books have been flipped upside down. They may as well be called "[player_tooltip player_id="138300" first="Kenzie" last="Bowers"]’ Stat Sheet". She’s the most prolific shooter in the history of the school, and quite possibly, the state of Michigan. Funny thing is, she could probably have a lot more triples in the books. But instead, she’s a floor general that will pass up an open look to get her teammates an even better one. To understand her true influence on a game, you’ve got to watch her live. Bowers is so incredibly composed and her teammates follow her lead. Her court demeanor is something to be admired. A leader like this, that has also rewritten record books, is a perfect Hankamp’s Turkey Day Award winner.

Dayton fans should love what’s on the horizon with [player_tooltip player_id="28017" first="Shannon" last="Wheeler"]. On a team full of Division 1 talent, she is the base of the foundation. Wheeler is the one, more than anyone, that is willing to sacrifice for the greater good of the team. She could probably average 20 and 12 on 90% of the teams in the state. But instead, she does the dirty work and gets her hands dirty so that her team picks up W’s. That’s really why she’s a Hankamp’s Turkey Day Award winner. Because every coach in the country wants a player just like Wheeler. Don’t forget how talented of a basketball player that she is. Wheeler has one of the most diverse skill sets, making her incredibly versatile.
