Final: ABA 56, NW Stars Navy 36 NW Stars Navy took on a somewhat familiar adversary in that of ABA - a team based out of Vancouver, Washington and showcases the talents of Oregon players [player_tooltip player_id="158514" first="Cali" last="Denson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="204576" first="Mandy" last="Sisul"]. NW Stars Navy looked a bit depleted by the end of a long weekend in which they defeated a formidable Cal Sparks Gold team on Saturday. However, basketball commenced as ABA ran off to a 14-4 lead early in the first half. ABA was incredibly active in the transition, moving the ball well within the half-court setting, and getting everyone great looks at the basket. A [player_tooltip player_id="158514" first="Cali" last="Denson"] 25 footer off the inbound was the exclamation point of the first half as it marked a 20-6 lead in favor of ABA. [player_tooltip player_id="158489" first="Truitt" last="Reilly"] would be the bright spot for the NW Stars as she would find ways to score consistently inside with excellent footing and was a force defensively. Denson had two back to back nice finishes around the rim, putting ABA up 28-9. [player_tooltip player_id="204583" first="Carly" last="Robb"] would hit a three pointer and [player_tooltip player_id="158489" first="Truitt" last="Reilly"] would have a sensational two-way play as she blocked the three-pointer on one would and finished with a nice back to the basket move on the other end. A [player_tooltip player_id="158542" first="Kennedie" last="Shuler"] find to [player_tooltip player_id="158545" first="Rhyan" last="Mogel"] in the corner would cut it to 30-18 ABA - which would be the score at halftime. [player_tooltip player_id="158489" first="Truitt" last="Reilly"] would open things up with a low post score, followed by Sisul free throws as well as another Denson triple from deep. Shuler would score on back to back possessions, with a scoop lay-up and a triple. Sisul fastbreak and another Denson triple would follow. Denson dribble penetrate into the corner followed by back to back scores by Hageman in the form of a three and lay-up. Hageman score, Denson triple and Shuler triple would conclude the game as ABA ran away with this one 56-36. Stats: ABA [player_tooltip player_id="158514" first="Cali" last="Denson"]: 20 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal <span blocks, 2 steals [player_tooltip player_id="158545" first="Rhyan" last="Mogel"]: 4 pints, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal [player_tooltip player_id="158517" first="Halle" last="Hageman"]: 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals [player_tooltip player_id="207820" first="Mia" last="Skoro"]: 2 rebounds, 2 rebounds, 1 steal [player_tooltip player_id="158542" first="Kennedie" last="Shuler"]: 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists [player_tooltip player_id="207819" first="Carly" last="Stone"]: 1 rebound [player_tooltip player_id="158551" first="Annie" last="Koenig"]: 1 steal Breakdown: [player_tooltip player_id="158514" first="Cali" last="Denson"]: The dribbling wiz, who just recently received offers from Tulsa and Eastern Washington is quickly becoming one of the hottest commodities in Oregon and for good reason. She showed the ability to play within an offensive scheme and make the right decisions every possession as well as step up and drill it from deep. She hit four three pointers, some from more than 20 feet out and showed off her range as well as an expansive lay-up package as a guard with a lot of skill and creativity in the paint. Her 20 point, 2 rebound, 3 assist, 2 block, 1 steal effort was certainly telling of her overall ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways as she has shown that she can be the highlight of a team while playing within the structure and orchestrating within a team setting. [player_tooltip player_id="204576" first="Mandy" last="Sisul"] The Central Washington signee is part of a very structured and successful La Salle team and is a defensively engaged player who has the ability to contribute on the offensive end as a finisher, with aggressive tendencies on both. She showed the ability to be a main cog on both ends of the floor versus a tough NW Stars Nacy club, and finished with a respectable 6 point total. [player_tooltip player_id="158489" first="Truitt" last="Reilly"]: Two-Way Player [player_tooltip player_id="158489" first="Truitt" last="Reilly"] had perhaps the biggest showing out of the NW Stars, as she had a huge last possession stop versus Cal Sparks to seal their close one-point victory versus the prolific Southern California squad and this marked her second game where she was a dominant defensive presence in the paint. She makes plays on both ends regularly, as a disciplined and incredibly skilled player that plays with incredible patience. Whether it is jumping timing on block shots or showing suave footing in the paint, Reilly gets the job done. Her 9 point, 6 rebound, 3 block, 2 steal total was very representative of her game and structure. Hageman and Shuler [player_tooltip player_id="158517" first="Halle" last="Hageman"] and [player_tooltip player_id="158542" first="Kennedie" last="Shuler"] play incredibly similarly as two players who constantly push the tempo and try to play to their speed and wit to catch defenses off guard. Mix this in with their ability to play within the half-court setting and you have a formidable two guard mix for NW Stars Navy. Kennedie can hit from outside as well as displays the ability to squeeze past a defender on her way to the basket. Hageman is an exceptional shooter who thrives in transition as a passer and finisher. They combined for 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
