Who are some other sophomores that could rise up in the rankings and have a high ceiling for improvement? We’ll look at some of the sophomores.
Dakota Alston Dakota Alston PG Detroit Edison | 2023 State MI (PG, Detroit Edison)
Alston is highly ranked as is, but there is just so much potential and upside in her game. Alston can be a truly elite floor general by the time it’s all said and done. She has a solid basketball IQ and is an excellent game manager.
Kynnedy Brown Kynnedy Brown SF Kalamazoo Central | 2023 State MI (SF, Kalamazoo Central)
I really like Brown’s explosiveness. She’s a lightning bolt that can put points on the board in a hurry. As she gets older, shots will open up and Brown could really put up some impressive numbers.
Mary Copple Mary Copple 5'7" | PG Brighton | 2023 State MI (PG, Brighton)
Honestly, before the Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Top 250, I hadn’t seen Copple play a ton. I made it a point to watch her in Grand Rapids and I came away very impressed. She is such an efficient point guard that sets the offense and initiates it with a high percentage pass.
Jillian Gomes Jillian Gomes 5'11" | PF Berkley | 2023 State MI (SF, Berkley)
There’s a lot to like about Gomes as a prospect. She really knows how to play on the wing. She moves well without the ball and fills the wing in transition consistently. Gomes has a jumper off the catch that needs to be respected by the D.
Markeita Grays Markeita Grays PF Wayne Memorial | 2023 State MI (PF, Wayne Memorial)
Grays has a very high upside, and Wayne Memorial has a recent tradition of rolling out high level recruits. She’s an athletic forward with good length. She stays very active on the glass on both ends and could be a force defensively. Grays could probably guard multiple positions as well.
Ava Hernandez Ava Hernandez 5'5" | SG Clarkston | 2023 State MI (PG, Clarkston)
Hernandez has a bright basketball future ahead of her. She’s a versatile perimeter player that can play on or off the ball, although I see her transitioning to the next level as a point guard. Hernandez has a pretty stroke from behind the arc which keeps the D honest.
Aaliyah Morehouse Aaliyah Morehouse 5'8" | SF East Lansing | 2023 State MI (SF, East Lansing)
Morehouse is a smooth moving wing from East Lansing. She runs the floor well and makes herself an option in the open floor. Morehouse’s straight line quickness, footwork, and toughness give her a nice ceiling as a player.
DeAndrea Smith (SF, Flint Carman-Ainsworth)
I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face – Smith absolutely crushed the Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Top 250. She was simply unstoppable on the offensive end. Smith scored in transition and isolation. She’s a natural wing, but showed the ability to be a primary ball handler as well.
