As a part of my coverage of the IL Bears Girls Jamboree I am providing my evaluation of each player from all four teams. Here are my notes and evaluation of the Yellow team.
Meghyn Blankenship is a 5’6 2022 Guard from Herrin. Meghyn is a classic point guard type that can control the flow of the offense and handle pressure. She can shoot the ball well out to the 3 point line in a catch and shoot situation. She is a good defender and can use her long wiry frame to contest passes and shots.
Jilyan Burgener is a 5’7 2024 Guard from Central A&M. Jilyan did a good job of showing off her ability to create off the dribble in this event. She has a very nice left handed shot that she can hit with regularity. Jilyan can at times stretch her range a bit deep so she will need to continue to focus on her strength to be able to hit those shots. She has a good feel for the game and has a nice upside to be watched.
Jocelyn Hall is a 6’0 2021 Post from Wayne City. Jocelyn has a nice low post game that is aided by her energy and movement. Multiple times Jocelyn was able to create good post position by being active and cutting to an open spot where she could seal her defender. Jocelyn has a nice turnaround jump shot and showed nice touch in the lane. She has some work to do gaining strength and refining her game, but I was impressed in seeing her for the first time.
Sophia Loden Sophia Loden 5'11" | SF Mascoutah | 2023 State IL is a 5’11 2023 Wing from Mascoutah. Sophia is a player that has made huge strides in her game from this time last year. The relentless work ethic has improved her ball handling and jump shot. She has a good feel for the game as was evidenced by the nice passes she was making all day. In a day and age where the midrange game has eroded from the game, Sophia showed the understanding of its value by hitting numerous 8-12 foot jump shots off the bounce.
Addison Seidel is a 5’4 2023 Guard from Wayne City. Addison played a nice complimentary game on a team of talented players. She did a good job of rebounding for her size and made smart plays once she did get the board. Addison pushed the ball in transition and made good passes to her open teammates. In the half court setting she did a good job of not being stationary and taking up space, she made many nice cuts to occupy her defender and allow her teammates more room to make a play.
Emma Rush is a 5’6 2021 Guard from Vienna. Emma is a physically strong player that has a very soft shot. She has good handles that allow her to beat her defender and create pull up opportunities. Emma has very good form that she can repeat and a nice release that allowed her to hit shots from deep range behind the 3-point line. She consistently ran the floor hard looking for easy chances on the break.
Lily Tanner is a 6’0 2022 Forward from Pinckneyville. Lily has great length and plays well on the move. At 6ft tall she is definitely not a post player, she can handle the ball and attack off the dribble. Defensively she uses that length well to get her hands on passes and create pressure. Lily has the potential to be a nice 3/4 at the college level creating space for a low post to operate in the paint.
