Early Season Leading Thieves

The 2021 season is off to a staggered start in regards to game schedules.  Several programs have yet to be allowed to start their season while others have been able to play up to six games so far.  With the practice moratorium running through January 3, 2021 and games allowed to resume January 8, we get a chance to see who are early statistical leaders according to statistics submitted to <a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/state/girls-basketball/kansas.htm">MaxPreps</a>.  This article takes a look at early steal leaders. [player_tooltip player_id="91929" first="Amiah" last="Simmons"], 5’8", PG, Osawatomie, 2021 - Already the Biola University (CA) commit and Blue Valley Southwest transfer is tearing things up in 3A.  Besides leading the state with 7 steals in 3 games, Simmons is also leading the state with 6.3 assists and is second in the state in scoring at 27.7 points per game. She is also averaging 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. [player_tooltip player_id="123558" first="Emily" last="Green"], 5’6", CG, Stafford, 2021 - Also a 1A D II standout, Green is averaging 5 steals per game through 6 games.  She is also averaging 15.2 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Macey Pond, 5.8", CG, South Haven, 2022 - Pond is the third 1A D II player in the list.  Through 4 games she is averaging 4.8 steals to go with 9.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. [player_tooltip player_id="123508" first="Alissa" last="Heskamp"], 5’8", PG, Spearville, 2021 - Heskamp leads class 2A with 4.8 steals per game through 4 games.  She is also leading the state in scoring at 29.5 points per game and adds 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.  . [player_tooltip player_id="123517" first="Regan" last="Ast"], 5’7", PG, Ingalls, 2021 - Ast leads Class 1A D 1 with 4.8 steals per game through 4 games while averaging 13.5 points, 5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds. Gracie Riner, 5’4", G, Osborne, 2024 - New on the scene as a 2024 is Riner.  Also playing in class 1A D I she is averaging 4.6 steals per game through 5 games.  Riner is also averaging 10 points, 4 assists, and 3.8 rebounds for the undefeated Bulldogs.
