There is still plenty of unsigned talent in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area and I will be spotlighting some of the best ones in the coming weeks as we navigate our way through what will be a weird and abbreviated high school season. Here is my second five.
[player_tooltip player_id="51157" first="Jaida" last="Belton"], 6’4" Center, Riverdale Baptist
Jaida is a great rebounder, shot blocker and defender. She has great touch around the rim, a 15 foot jumper and will move bodies around in the paint. She is a very strong and physical player. She hasn’t been playing long so she will be a late bloomer and a steal for a D1 program.
[player_tooltip player_id="136405" first="Kayla" last="Cabbagestalk"], 5’11" Wing, Chesapeake BC
Kayla is a versatile wing/guard that is known for strapping up on defense. She can guard multiple positions and has a non-stop motor. Kayla is a strong rebounder and can play some minutes as a point guard as well as on the wing.
[player_tooltip player_id="136448" first="Niyona" last="Smith"], 6’0" Forward,
Niyona can play both forward positions. She is a good passer and strong finisher in the paint. She has a nice mid range touch and rebounds well. She has good footwork and a strong basketball IQ. She can help a DII or DIII program right away.
Electra Allembert, 6’2" Center, New Hope Academy
Electra is a high academic post player with tremendous upside. She transferred in to New Hope from the U.S. Virgin Islands to develop her game and has made great strides. She is an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor and a solid help side defender. She needs to get stronger but she is a physical player that draws a lot of free throw attempts. She has a strong motor and will step out to the three point line. She is only considering strong academic schools.
[player_tooltip player_id="136414" first="Jersey" last="Mayfield"]. 5’9" Guard, National Christian Academy
Jersey is a straight zone buster that has serious range on her shot. She has good size at 5'9" and has a nice touch around the basket as well. Whatever school signs her will be bringing in a 4.0 student as well.
