Garden City: Standouts & Player Notes

The Garden city Lady Buffaloes had a late start to their season they weren’t allowed to practice or play any games till after Christmas break. Every other school in the state had already played 5 games and had15 plus practices under their belt before garden was able to even have a team practice. It takes great leadership from your Head coach and players to be able to handle all the obstacles that comes with not being able to practice or coach your players to prepare for the season. The Lady Buffs had a total of five practices before their first game. Coach Pfeifer has done amazing job leading the Buffs to a 6-1 start. Talking to Coach Pfeifer he gives all the success to his players. The Lady Buffs is lead by three seniors [player_tooltip player_id="158590" first="Julie" last="Calzonetti"], [player_tooltip player_id="160897" first="Keyhana" last="Turner"], and [player_tooltip player_id="191053" first="Symone" last="Simmons"]. Julie and Keyhana have started varsity since they were freshman. They also have two sophomores that start for the lady buffs, [player_tooltip player_id="127283" first="Amaya" last="Gallegos"] and [player_tooltip player_id="156293" first="Aileen" last="Becerril"]. Amaya and Aileen are ranked in the 2023 class, Amaya comes into the season at #10 and Aileen is ranked #35.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160897" first="Keyhana" last="Turner"]</strong>- is one of the most versatile players in the state being able to play and guard every position on the floor.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="156293" first="Aileen" last="Becerril"]</strong> - is a big guard that can shoot the three and rebound from the wing. Aileen is leading the buffs in scoring through the first 7 games

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="191053" first="Symone" last="Simmons"]</strong> - is a left handed center that is strong and powerful that provides a presence downlow that most teams don’t have.

The Lady Buffs are off to a great start a 6-1 record and playing 6 out of their 7 games on the road with limited practices is a huge accomplishment to a shortened season. The Lady Buffs also accomplished something that hasn’t been done in 25 attempts is beating the Liberal Lady Redskins at home. Giving the Lady Redskins it first lost in 29 games. This team is going to be fun to cover the rest of the season and watching compete in the Western Athletic Conference.
