Teams often times make deep runs into the state tournament and send students to play collegiate basketball constantly. This year will be no different, here are the players with a good chance at leading the conference in all major statistical categories.
Points per game- Stephanie Van Note (Sayreville): Sayreville is in a very solid position heading into the new season, they didn’t lose any players to graduation and they return all of their top production from last year. The player with the most eyes on them is Stephanie Van Note, she led the team in scoring last year and looks like a solid bet for a repeat performance. As a junior Van Note averaged 17 points per game, she has the makeup of a small forward but is constantly bringing the ball up and running the offense which gives her more looks than if she was waiting for the ball to cycle around to her. She’s not much of a threat from outside but her pure athleticism gives her the ability to create separation and get open shots.
Rebounds per game- Madison Robel (Middlesex): One of the top teams in the state of New Jersey, Middlesex is looking for another great year. Another team that didn’t lose any players due to graduation, Middlesex is going to rely on several players to carry the load, one player being Madison Robel in particular. As a sophomore Robel averaged 8.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, almost averaging a double-double in just your second year as a high school player is quite impressive. Playing around so many talented guards gives Robel the ability to camp on the inside and wait for mismatches to take advantage of which she does so very well. Her quick feet allow her to get into good position and grad boards at a high rate, expect more of the same from Madison Robel in her junior year.
Assists per game- Tori Fisher Tori Fisher 5'8" | SG Piscataway | 2021 State NJ (Piscataway): Tori Fisher Tori Fisher 5'8" | SG Piscataway | 2021 State NJ and the Piscataway girls basketball team are both in a tough position this year. The team lost six seniors to graduation and now have to rely on basically an entirely new team to replace all of that production. Luckily Piscataway has Fisher, a senior point guard who will look to get her teammates quickly involved so defenses don’t just key in on her. Her average of 3.3 assists last year doesn’t seem like much, but with the position she’s in now if the offense is to run smoothly she is going to need to get her team involved as soon as possible.
Blocks per game- Tianna Whitney Tianna Whitney 5'9" | SF Edison | 2023 State NJ (Edison): It’s always hard to get freshman to give you big production simply because the game comes so much faster at the next level, but certain players buck that trend and become big weapons. Tianna Whitney Tianna Whitney 5'9" | SF Edison | 2023 State NJ is one of those players and has become one of Edison’s most important players in short order. As a freshman Whitney averaged 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4 blocks per game
