WCAC basketball is back with a twist, no fans. At least however we have basketball. Prep Girls Hoops was able to view Paul VI host St. Mary’s Ryken. It was the season opener for both teams and the game started out scoreless for the first couple of minutes, either good defense or lack of rhythm offensively or both. The Panthers struck first and never trailed in route to a 73-32 victory to start the year 1-0

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Isa[player_tooltip player_id="21939" first="Bella" last="Perkins"] - Guard - PVI</strong></span>
Perkins has her way on the court driving to the hoop and knocking down the three. She notched 21 points and 4 steals in the first half alone.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="21932" first="Lee" last="Volker"] - Wing - PVI</strong></span>
Defensively Volker was disruptive in the front of the press using her length to cause issues for Ryken. She showed so physicality in her ability to get to the line repeatedly.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="136459" first="Chinwe" last="Irondi"] - Forward - St. Mary’s Ryken</strong></span>
Chinwe was a force inside for the Knights and also showed the ability to push the ball on the break and finish at the rim.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="238889" first="Laura" last="Williams"] - Post - Paul VI</strong></span>
As a freshman Laura stood out. First because not many freshmen get on varsity for PVI and secondly because she came in and contributed right away. She got a block, steal, rebound and scored on the run within her first minute in the game. Keep an eye on her as her career continues.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Destiny Towns - Forward - St. Mary’s Ryken</strong></span>
Was solid inside using her body to create space. She had several two handed block shots without jumping by getting in the right position. She also was able to catch and finish well by the basket.
