<strong><em>Surprise Valley Vista</em></strong> (3-0) - Deepest and most talented team from top to bottom in Arizona. Top ranked 2022 player [player_tooltip player_id="36790" first="Jennah" last="Isai"] is out for the remainder of the season. Washington commit [player_tooltip player_id="136237" first="Marisa" last="Davis-Jones"] is a match up issue for most teams. Disciplined and well coached.
<strong><em>Mesa Westwood</em></strong> (7-0) - Big wins over Mesa, Dobson and Apollo in the early weeks of the season. The Warriors are one of the better shooting teams in the state from the 3 point line. Rising junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="214586" first="Nyese" last="Jones"]</strong> leads this high scoring team with 14.3 points per game.
<strong><em>Chandler Hamilton</em></strong> (6-1) - Solid victories over Xavier and and O’Connor before losing to a rapidly improving Perry squad. The rematch with Xavier Prep on 2/9 should be a good one. Hampton commit <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="113515" first="Amyah" last="Reaves"]</strong> and senior backcourt mate <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="217495" first="Graciela" last="Roybal"]</strong> (Arizona Christian commit) are providing the scoring and leadership for a team that has been getting great contributions from freshmen <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205652" first="Savanna" last="Creal"]</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205644" first="Reanna" last="Farrington"]</strong>.
<strong><em>Chandler Dobson</em></strong> (6-1) - Impact wins: Mesa, Perry. Key loses: Westwood. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="113524" first="Rachel" last="Early"]</strong> is one of the top uncommitted 2021 players in the state. She leads the team in scoring and plays with a lot of purpose. 2024 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205665" first="Ahdiayh" last="Chee"]</strong> has had an impressive start to her varsity career with scoring, rebounding and court savvy. Chee has fit right in and she is definitely a high riser for the class.
<strong><em>Phoenix O’Connor</em></strong> (4-1) - Senior guards <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="136289" first="Elle" last="Walker"]</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="136281" first="Paris" last="Atuahene"]</strong> are an impressive guard combo as you will find in AIA. Great leadership and synergy. The 2023 class for the Eagles were one of the better groups of incoming freshmen last season. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="208239" first="Mak" last="Snyder"]</strong> had a breakout game versus Hamilton (21 points). Fellow sophs [player_tooltip player_id="208736" first="Amaya" last="Washington"] and Katy Frost have added the much needed inside presence on the boards and scoring. Impact wins: Boulder Creek.
<em><strong>Phoenix Xavier Prep</strong></em> (4-2) - Xavier started the season with two blowout loses to Valley Vista and Hamilton. They have since rattled off 4 straight wins. Xavier Prep has the top incoming freshmen class so the early season was full of adjustments. Key rematch with Hamilton will show us how much they have improved since the first 2 outings. 2024s <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205639" first="Sarah" last="Miller"]</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205638" first="Dominique" last="Nesland"]</strong> are both scoring in double figures. Miller had a breakout game vrs Chandler tallying 26 points for one of the better frosh games of the early season.
<strong><em>Mesa</em></strong> (4-2) - The Jackrabbits lost to cross town rivals Dobson and Westwood in the early season. The dynamic scoring duo of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="65619" first="Ashiian" last="Hunter"]</strong> (20.7 pts, 5 rebs, 5 stls) and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="73478" first="Mackenzie" last="Shivers"]</strong> (15.3 pts, 5.5 assist, 5.3 stls) have been tough for teams to deal with. Upcoming challenges: Hamilton (2/11) and Seton Catholic (2/17).
<strong><em>Gilbert Highland</em> </strong>(8-0) - Key early season wins over Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe. Highland is primed to rule the 6A Central Region this year. Transfer 2021 <strong>Ky Skinner</strong> has made an immediate impact.
<strong><em>Yuma Cibola</em></strong> (5-1) - Cibola finished 22-5 last year and they have one of the top incoming freshmen classes in Arizona. This early season success should not come as a surprise. Do it all performer <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="214698" first="Myna" last="Johnson"]</strong> (2022) is one of the better players outside of the metro Phoenix area. Johnson is averaging 20+ points and 5 assists per game. Versatile 2024 shooting guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205661" first="Sierra" last="Bomhower"]</strong> is going to be a name to remember.
<strong><em>Anthem Boulder Creek</em></strong> (6-1) - Impact win over Pinnacle and an early season loss to O’Connor. Soph <strong>Kaitlyn Beall</strong> and Frosh <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="205649" first="Abigail" last="Dean"]</strong> are both scoring in double figures for one of the surprise teams in the early season.
