There were some intriguing matchups and impressive basketball late last week. We’ll take a look at my impressions from the Byron vs. Okemos game and the Belleville vs. Livonia Franklin matchup.

Byron 69, Okemos 35

[player_tooltip player_id="28032" first="Makayla" last="Clement"] (2021, PF, Byron)
Passing seemed to be a forte for a talented Byron squad. Clement sent the ball on a string to her teammates. Her passes were accurate and came out of her hands quickly. Clement also showed confidence in her mid range game.
Allison Hooley (2021, SF, Byron)
Hooley had a really nice game and I was most impressed with her passing abilities. She made multiple solid passes into the post. Clement went over and around defenders to get the ball inside.
[player_tooltip player_id="138347" first="Becky" last="Marvin"] (2021, PF, Byron)
Marvin seemed to have control of the paint when she was in the game. She showed the strength to establish position and had a nose for the ball, especially on the offensive glass.
[player_tooltip player_id="28025" first="Sarah" last="Marvin"] (2021, SF, Byron)
[player_tooltip player_id="28025" first="Sarah" last="Marvin"] was absolutely terrific in the game. She was strong on the glass, often times creating second chance opportunities. She’s probably underrated as a passer and can handle and advance the ball as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="138398" first="Emma" last="Cooke"] (2021, PF, Okemos)
Cooke flashed some game despite the loss. Her combination of height, strength and ball skills to the right make her a tough matchup. She showed the ability to slash to the rim and use her mid range game.
[player_tooltip player_id="147793" first="Haley" last="Henion"] (2022, PG. Okemos)
Henion could pick up at half court and pressure the ball. She was able to create and open the floor for teammates using the dribble drive.
Abigail Jager (2023, SG, Okemos)
Jager showed some flashes in the loss. She could bea ficture for this team for the next few years. Jager did well working the baseline.
[player_tooltip player_id="138358" first="Alexis" last="Sermak"] (2021, CG, Okemos)
Sermak looked comfortable working off a screen. She was a leader on the floor and often directed traffic on the offensive end.

Belleville 56, Livonia Franklin 35

Rachel Riley (2023, PG, Belleville)
Belleville has some young talent and Riley is a key figure. She showed a great post entry bounce pass and put it where her teammate needed it. Riley had another pretty pass to a teammate cutting to the rim.
[player_tooltip player_id="244276" first="Daria" last="Shelby"] (2024, SG, Belleville)
The present and the future are bright in Belleville. Shelby will be a thorn in the side of opponents for the next 4 years. She has a nice mid range game that looks very hard to defend successfully.
[player_tooltip player_id="138340" first="Nya" last="Thomas"] (2021, CG, Belleville)
Thomas appears to have taken her game to a new level. She has great feet on defense, always staying on her toes and keeping a low base. Thomas played in your face D that forced screening action so high that it was almost at halfcourt.
[player_tooltip player_id="126324" first="Sammy" last="Provenzano"] (2022, SG, Livonia Franklin)
The potential is there for Provenzano. She’s an active guard that stays on the move and isn’t afraid to get after the ball off the perimeter.
[player_tooltip player_id="178871" first="Erin" last="Young"] (2022, PF, Livonia Franklin)
Young is an underrated prospect. She has the strength to match up with almost any forward. Young does a good job clearing space in the lane.
