The 2023 class has some promising post players that were able to stand out even during the pandemic shortend season. These are the one’s to watch this summer as college coaches look to secure their inside for the future.
1) [player_tooltip player_id="188312" first="Tyler" last="Johnson"] - 6’2" - Hampton Roads
Tyler comes in as the top post player in the class. She has great length and is an exceptional shot blocker. She can finish inside with either hand. She has a soft mid range shot, defensively she plays well in the interior and perimeter moving her feet and using her long arms as a disruption.
2) Jessica Dornack - 6’0" - South Lakes
Jessica is another player that has great timing to block shots. She’s a good rebounder that boxes out well and excels mainly because she outworks her opponent. She missed part of her freshman season and the pandemic kept her under the radar this year, it should be interesting to see her progress once things fully open up.
3) [player_tooltip player_id="149816" first="Sophia" last="Carlisle"] - 6’1" -Bishop O’Connell
Sophia has a strong frame and is a good rebounder. She clogs the paint on defense and is a deterent for anyone attacking the basket. She will need to use her strength and be more physical but figure out how to do it without fouling because she will be needed in the game.
4) [player_tooltip player_id="188300" first="Mia" last="Daniels"] - 5’11" - Kempsville
It seems like Mia can do a little bit of everything and may be figuring out her specialty. The good thing is her coach can plug her into almost any situation and she will be fine. She can spot time at three positions easily and has the midrange touch that can spread the offense out to create driving lanes for teammates.
5) [player_tooltip player_id="254951" first="Jaedyn" last="Cook"] - 6’2" - Thomas Jefferson (Richmond)
Jaedyn would be considered a walking double-double with her ability to rebound. She has had varsity experience since the eigth grade and has been efficient each year and gained first team all state honor as a freshman. Expect her stock to rise as we see her more over the summer.
6) [player_tooltip player_id="254956" first="Zoli" last="Khalil"] - 6’0" - Spottswood
Zoli is a good finisher inside. She’s good at finding open gaps around the basket and predicting which direction the rebounds will go. Her shot from the elbow is pretty consistent.
7) [player_tooltip player_id="262573" first="Louis" last="Volker"] - 6’0" - Loudoun Valley
Louis has been putting up impressive numbers in big games. She’s a consistent scorer and rebounder. She comes from a basketball family looking to continue the Volker tradition. Seeing her on the summer circuit will be a good guage of her potential.
