The 2020-2021 season saw many young ladies hit the floor proving to make a name for themselves. They had a purpose not only to help their team win but to leave everything they had on the floor each and every night. No matter what the coach said, they were going to give it their all to help propel their school to victory. With so many talented young ladies across the state, it can be hard to choose who deserves the astonishing award of becoming Miss Tennessee. The girls listed below not only went above and beyond to be the best individually, but they did it within the framework of helping their team along the way. Though none of these girl’s games are selfish at all, these young ladies stood out by voters to be recognized as the best in their prospective class. Here are your 20-21 Miss Tennessee Basketball Award winners. DI Class AAA [player_tooltip player_id="245135" first="Denae" last="Fritz"] (CG, Maryville) The 6’0 Swiss Army Knife was a bucket this year for her Lady Rebels squad. Though they fell 1 game short of winning it all, Denae had a great senior year where she signed to play with the Iowa State Cyclones. Denae could do it all for her team. She could defend multiple positions, block shots, control the board, jump passes to lead to easy transition buckets. She shot the ball at a high clip from multiple spots on the floor. Her court awareness allowed her to be in the right spot at the right time to either receive passes to catch and shoot or to clean up missed shots for putback opportunities. Denae is a tough competitor that will have a successful career at the next level. Class AA [player_tooltip player_id="245147" first="Reagan" last="Hurst"], (SG, Upperman) The 5’10 shooting guard is a bucket filler. Her athleticism and playmaking ability allowed the game come to her so easily. Reagan has the ability to create space, get to the lane, and finish shots at multiple levels. Her size and length created havoc for smaller guards because she was able to attack from either inside or out. Though she loved to shoot the 3 ball, Reagan also used her quick first step to shoot 15ft shots. It didn’t matter if you tried to run her off the line or closed out short, Reagan shot the ball from a high clip from multiple spots. She was one of the leading catalysts that led her Lady Bees to back to back championships. Tennessee Tech is getting a hidden gem that will help elevate their program. Class A [player_tooltip player_id="245207" first="Karly" last="Weathers"],(CG, Loretto) The 5’10 junior is making a name for herself. She has been a phenomenal leader for the Lady Mustangs ever since she stepped foot on campus. Karly is a playmaker who can dazzle the crowd. She has a great basketball IQ that allows her to make split-second decisions that generally lead to success. Beyond the arc, she’s a bucket, but she will sometimes hit her opponents with the occasional step-back shot to create space. Karly is a tough competitor, when that whistle blows to start the game, she kicks her emotions into another gear. Wherever the ball is, Karly is near whether it’s on offense or defense. When she has the ball in her hands, she’s like Magic Johnson. Karly has so many attributes that tilt her potential arrow-straight north. Look for many power 5 schools to make a run at this sensational young lady. DII Class A [player_tooltip player_id="245159" first="Jordaynia" last="Ivie"], (CG, Lakeway Christian Academy) Dubbed Queen Nia, she has had a phenomenal year. From capturing District II-A MVP, Region Tournament MVP, MAAG Nominee, and now Miss Tennessee Basketball winner, Jordaynia has built up an impressive resume in just her senior season alone. She is a positionless player who just gets it done. Whatever her coach says, she does. She was the X factor for her Lady Lions club this year, providing a spark at a moment’s notice. Nia has the playmaking ability that allows her to be a threat every time she touches the ball. From shooting the ball deep to attacking gaps to get to the lane, she was huge for her club every time she stepped onto the floor. At the time of this writing, she has yet to commit to a school. Look for whatever school she chooses to get a steal that will be a solid contributor to their program for years to come. Class AA [player_tooltip player_id="245351" first="Jaloni" last="Cambridge"],(PG, Ensworth) Smooth. Great feel for the game. Speed. Quickness. Jaloni has it all. There aren’t enough attributes around to describe this freshman’s game. She checks multiple boxes for any program looking for a playmaking PG. Jaloni has basketball instincts that you can’t teach. Though she is young in class, her game is big-time basketball. From being a threat on D to create turnovers, to simply running the offense, when the ball is in her hands, something great is bound to happen. Jaloni has the ability to shoot the ball from a high clip from anywhere on the floor. Pick a spot, she’s got you. Her game just continues to get better as she gets older. Her freshman campaign was nothing but stellar. She was a leading catalyst for her club this year. Look for her to continue to be a force to be reckoned with for the remaining three years of her high school career.
