I use my own terminology for a number of reasons and one that I have used for over a decade is "The Magic Number" which is 6’0 and virtually assures players with any type of ability a chance to play at the next level. I have had college coaches call me after school has started asking for players that fir that profile, yet some are not quite at the height but play as if they are so here is a mix
[player_tooltip player_id="211848" first="Toni" last="Papahronis"]-6’1 (Team Trae Young 2022) 2022
Papahronis falls into that "long and athletic" player I profile for several reasons because that too is the base for many college coaches and when you factor in her wingspan, you get it or you should but watching her slice to the basket at ease and finish strongly as well as rebound on both ends, not to leave out the countless putbacks she dropped sort of tells the story
Mahogany King-5’11 (AKYB Academy 2022 Elite) 2022
King showed she was Queen in the paint, well not just the paint but her effort from "staying with the ball" and that not giving up no matter what really impressed me but let me not get it twisted because I initially saw her from afar playing the passing lane, that's a pet peeve, one of my many but seeing her finish strongly after contact over and over was also a huge plus
Gracie Campbell-5’9 (Shock 2022 Gold) 2022
Campbell definitely gave some mmm mmm good moments numerous times and I can't emphasize how I immediately zone in on players that play the passing lane, yeah, that's another base I love that's a #THROWBACK yet she also did a good job rebounding by "following the ball" off the rim and when she showed she could score off the dribble, awe yeah
Josie Storey-5’10 (Shock 2022 Black)
Storey proved everyone has a story to share when you have an evaluator as a storyteller but in keeping it real, she did too and what I loved about her game more than anything was her consistency as she's a couple of inches shy of "the magic number" yet she doesn't seem to know it because she outrebounded taller players, she attacked the rim strongly and her pull-up jumper from midrange was definitely nice
[player_tooltip player_id="135401" first="Allie" last="Buchanan"]-6’0 (Platinum Basketball Bates 2022) 2022
Buchanan amazed me when I caught her pre-high school because of her size as well as physique not to mention her poise and as we fast forward to this timeline, she's dropping the long ball sometimes not to far from the timeline so after shooting just under 70% from BTA, she also flirted with double-doubles nit to mention solid defense and filling up the stat sheet
[player_tooltip player_id="191203" first="Brookelyn" last="Williams"]-5’10 (Dynasty 2022 Black)
Williams just falls into that "utility player" profile because she utilizes so many things, I thought of that on the fly however I remember her flying to the rim for baskets on several occasions not to leave out showing she could face the basket and score but not only does she creates her shot well, she sees the floor and I guess watching her play the passing lane sealed it
Martie McCoy-5’10 (Platinum Basketball 2022 Bruce) 2022
McCoy just won't be outworked, especially kin the paint and I love the fact that she understands something simple that is actually huge, positioning and this enables her to outrebound players over "the magic number" yet it also shows her desire. She has good hands and footwork, she finishes and she runs the floor on both ends of the court
