This past weekend was the LBI April Showers tournament in Warsaw, Indiana. During the Summer in 2020, LBI found Warsaw as a nice home to host tournaments during the pandemic, and it appears it will be hosting more events there in the future. This event has been one of their biggest/best. Many of the top Michigan teams, along with Indiana programs like 5 Star/MBA Select, Always 100 , IABC, IGB, Indy Magic, and the Region Rebels, plus some of the better teams from Chicago and Northwest Ohio were in attendance. Below is a look at a dozen ladies who stood out in their games I was able to see on Championship Sunday.

Maggie is a versatile, highly productive kid who you can’t take off the floor. I feel like every step of the way over the last three years, she has just outshined more talented players by using her basketball IQ, skillset, and work ethic to contribute in a number of ways. She’s a tough kid who is willing to get inside, rebound, and defend. But she also has a solid handle, a nice-looking jump-shot, plus she can defend wings with her length and effort. She is drawing a lot of small college interest because of her plug-and-play versatility.

Sydney is one of those players who might not be the tallest, might not be the best at any single skill trait, but you can’t take her off the floor because she is extremely productive and versatile. Sunday she was all over the place. Every time I looked up, she was around the ball making a play, whether it was collecting a steal or rebound, finishing a tough basket, holding her ground defensively, or knocking down a 15-foot jumper. I honestly don’t know what position you call her, because she fits in the lineup several different ways. She’s a chameleon.

Abby is playing about as well as any post in Indiana right now. She looks motivated and aggressive, but she has always possessed good size and skill. She has some length, a solid/strong frame, and she runs the floor well. She can catch it on the block and finish with an instinctive move, she can shoot it in the mid-post, but she also has solid hands and can catch it on the run and finish. I look for her to draw a ton of small college interest over these next few months, because she seems to fit GLIAC and Crossroads League schools.

Taylor is an impressive talent who is only going to get better with time. She has tremendous length, bouncy athleticism, the ability to run the floor, plus she’s a wiry strong kid willing to mix it up. The biggest thing with her is going to be just continuing to expand her skillset and become more of a face-up ‘4’ than a back-to-the-basket type of player. Playing alongside 6-2 C

the next couple of years at Ben Davis should help that transition as well. Taylor just possesses a lot of ability, and once she corrals it, she could be scary.

Emily has a reputation in her area of being a shooter, and while she does shoot a nice ball and has good mechanics, I feel like that label is a bit deceiving. So far this Spring, she has been really good on attack. She has a strong frame, she’s willing to be physical and take contact, plus she rebounds it well from the guard position. She is a solid athlete, and she has shown the ability to really dig in and defend the ball when necessary. Her interest should increase significantly with more coaches out and about this Summer.

Kaiden has been a fun guard to watch over the last calendar year. She is strong, athletic, gritty, and sometimes a little chippy on the floor. But she always plays hard and is aggressive. She was already a nice basketball player last Summer/Fall, but this Spring she looks even more polished from a skillful standpoint. She is handling it a little better, but she looks to be a lot more accurate from the perimeter as well. I also like her versatility, her willingness to rebound, and her ability to defend multiple types of players.

This is going back a little bit, but after watching her this weekend, Abbie reminds me a lot of 2016 Fishers graduate Kara Gerka. Abbie has a long, athletic frame, she can run and jump, she has great hands, and she can finish at odd angles around the basket or knock down shots in the mid-post. She has a solid handle and can attack the basket, plus she is more than capable of defending power forwards, wings, and even some guards at times. As she continues to build her offensive skillset, look for her to be a problem offensively.

At times it’s almost comical to watch Olivia play against grassroots teams who haven’t scouted her, because she is an outstanding shooter, and when her defender helps off, you just know as soon as she touches it, it’s going up and going in. She was on-target in each of the games I saw this weekend. She is an intelligent and instinctive guard as well, and she also does a solid job of sliding over to the point guard position and running offense. As she continues to gain strength, I’d look for her range to deepen and for her to attack the basket more.

I always enjoy watching good players compete against good opponents, and Sunday Kyndra had some really nice moments. She is a strong, tough-nosed, feisty lead guard with a good feel for the game. She can run offense, attack the basket downhill, and she’s a willing facilitator. But Sunday she also shot it well and hit big shots down the stretch in one specific game I saw. She plays with a great motor, and I think she is just so solid and disciplined that coaches will really appreciate her game.
Gabrielle Burrus, 2025, 5-3 PG, North Central H.S. (Indianapolis)
Sunday was my first time hearing about and seeing Gabrielle. She is a nice little guard with good strength, toughness, and quickness. She handles it pretty well, she can turn the corner and get downhill, and she understands her size and finishes with floaters/runners consistently. She also looks to knock down perimeter shots and is an accurate shooter outside. I really liked her feel for the game and the fact that she didn’t seem to let anything rattle her, despite playing “up” two age groups.
Ava Carter, 2025, 5-10 SF, Fishers H.S.
Ava is a talented burst of energy who goes on scoring streaks at times. She has a long, wiry frame, she’s a run-and-jump athlete, and she plays with a nice motor. She first impressed me with how easily she glided into the lane and finished around the basket at odd angles, but then she buried a 3-pointer, then another, and another over the span of four or five possessions. She is extremely versatile. She also showed great effort at the defensive end of the floor, and she can take on guards, wings, and forwards down there.
Meredith Tippner, 2025, 5-8 CG, Noblesville H.S.
Meredith is a long, somewhat slender, but fluid and skillful guard. She has a solid handle, is the primary ball-handler for her grassroots team at times, and she does a nice job of getting in the gaps and making plays for herself or others. She has nice touch around the perimeter and can knock down shots outside, but I really like her creativity and toughness. She looks like she’s growing, and despite her frame, she already seeks physicality. Once she gets stronger, look for her to being even that much more dangerous at all three levels.
